Will the Venue of the 2024 T20 World Cup Be Changed at the Last Moment? Cricket West Indies Faces Massive Terror Threat

The Cricket West Indies (CWI) is closely monitoring the security situation as the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 faces terror threats from northern Pakistan. Cricket West Indies has assured all teams of safety for the upcoming ICC tournament in the West Indies in June this year.

The ninth edition of the 20-team T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 1 to June 29, 2024. The USA and West Indies will host the league stage matches, while the knockout matches, including the Super 8s, will host semi-final matches – the finals and finals will be played in the Caribbean islands.

Johnny Graves, CEO of CWI, assured that they are handling the situation carefully and will take all necessary measures to prevent this from happening.

“Pro-Islamic State (IS) media have launched campaigns inciting violence against sporting events, including video messages from the Afghan-Pakistani affiliate ISKhorasan (IS-K) highlighting abuses in numerous countries and urging supporters to join the battlefield to join their countries”, says the security alert, quoted by Cricbuzz.

We work closely with the authorities in the host countries – Johnny Graves

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Johnny Graves reiterated his willingness to address any security issues that may arise during or before the tournament. Graves emphasized their collaboration with authorities in host countries and cities to mitigate potential risks.

“We are working closely with authorities in host countries and cities and continually monitoring and assessing the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified for our event.” Graves told Cricbuzz.

“We would like to reassure everyone involved that the safety of everyone at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is our top priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place.” he added.

According to reports, the potential threat to the T20 World Cup has been identified by media group ‘Nashir Pakistan’, which is linked to the pro-Islamic State (Daesh). Trinidad’s Daily Express described Nashir-e Pakistan as a propaganda channel close to the Islamic State group.

Trinidad Prime Minister Keith Rowley said Caricom and security agencies were working together to address the threat to the World Cup. Barbados regional security officials are reportedly monitoring the situation closely to prevent any potential mishaps at the marquee tournament.
