Former members of Abby Lee Miller’s Dance Company reunited for the first time in a decade, but Maddie Ziegler wasn’t among them.
When Dancing mothers Fans tune in to the reunion special on May 1st, fans of the West Side Story Star will be surprised not to see her sitting next to JoJo Siwa or the other girls.
Or maybe not. To be honest, there’s a lot of bad blood between Maddie and the dance teacher who introduced these dancers to fame through reality TV.
And because Maddie Ziegler skipped the reunion, she’s now having a fight with the other girls.
Why Maddie Ziegler skipped the ‘Dance Moms’ reunion
Dance Moms: The Reunion brought together many of the reality show’s most famous alums. JoJo Siwa, Chloé Lukasiak, Brooke Hyland, Paige Hyland, Kendall Vertes and Kalani Hilliker agreed to perform.
Noticeably absent from the special are original cast member Nia Sioux and sisters Kenzie and Maddie Ziegler. Behind JoJo, Maddie is arguably the most famous face in the franchise. It was confirmed that the Ziegler sisters had been invited to participate, but they immediately declined the offer.
“We didn’t want to go back to that time,” they said in a statement AND.
While the decision to skip the reunion was entirely her own, the other girls in attendance criticized the move during the special event.
JoJo Siwa turns on Maddie Ziegler for skipping the reunion
In a controversial move, JoJo Siwa actually defends Abby Lee Miller and her controversial behavior on Dance Moms. During the special, JoJo even went a step further and called out all the girls, like Maddie, who opted out of the reunion special because of her complicated relationship with Abby Lee Miller.
“Them not being here is like, ‘Let me erase my past, pretend it never happened and shove it down the drain,'” JoJo told the other girls. “If that’s the case, then you are who you are.”
It seems that most of the other girls agreed with JoJo, like Kalani, who nodded along, and Kendall Vertes, who added:
“Without it we wouldn’t be here Dancing mothers. It was literally the stepping stone to who we are today.”
Other girls came to her defense.
“Some people may still be processing something and it’s hard to talk about some of what we’ve been through,” Paige said, while Brooke added: “They’ve closed the book and don’t want to open it and to pull back.”
What is Maddie doing now?

In short, Maddie grows up and moves away from the little girl people saw on screen. And honestly, isn’t that the way it should be?
“I won’t always be the little girl,” she said TeenVogue March. “I’m still the same goofy, loving, hardworking girl, but I’m also changing and growing. It’s scary when people say, ‘But you’re not who you were when you were younger.’ And I have to explain, ‘Yeah, because that’s just not realistic.’”
