Alex Cooper never had a problem doing things her own way.
When Cooper, 29, got married Matt Kaplan In a lavish ceremony over the weekend in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, she decided not to let her father walk her down the aisle.
As the host of “Call Her Daddy” said Fashion In an article published on Wednesday, April 24, she said, “When I started planning the wedding, I really rejected the idea of being led down by one man and handed over to another man.”
Still, Cooper made it very clear that the decision was not an indictment against her father.
“Although to be clear, I have such an incredible relationship with my dad and both of my parents – that wasn’t the point,” she explained. “Personally, I just never loved this tradition. It’s old and antiquated. My mother also walked the altar herself, so I guess in a way we are creating our own tradition for the women in our family.”
While Cooper’s father wasn’t directly involved in the ceremony, things were different for the couple’s dogs. Cooper and Kaplan’s two Goldendoodles, Harry and Bruce, whom Cooper calls “our children,” played important roles.
“They were the ring bearers,” Cooper said. “Each of them wore one of our rings around their collar, and when my brother asked about the rings, they had their own moment as they entered through the double doors and ran down the hallway. It was perfection.”
The wedding was officiated by Cooper’s brother, Grant, which Cooper said “has been instrumental throughout my life.” She gushed: “My brother did an incredible job speaking so beautifully about our relationship.”
Cooper noted that she and Kaplan, 40, decided to keep their vows a secret until the ceremony.
“It felt electrifying for our families and closest friends to hear us express our feelings for each other in the most intimate of settings,” Cooper said. “As you can see in almost every photo, there were no dry eyes in sight. We will never forget this moment.”
Cooper and Kaplan — co-founders and co-CEOs of Trending Media Company — got engaged in March 2023 after meeting on a Zoom call in July 2020.
The podcast host recalled those early days: “We went to dinner in LA a few times, sitting pandemic-style in parking lots, and after the first dinner I had no doubt that he would be the man I would go to .” with whom I can spend the rest of my life.”
