The main work Kalki 2898 AD Considered to be the most anticipated cinematic spectacle of the year, it aims to entertain audiences with a unique tale of mythology and science fiction. The makers of the film recently unveiled the character of Amitabh Bachchan in a grand ceremony in Neemawar, Madhya Pradesh. Ever since megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s portrayal of Ashwatthama in the epic was revealed, audiences have been curious to know more about the mysterious character.

Here are some facts about Ashwatthama from the epic Mahabharata that you need to know before the film hits theaters.

1. Son of Dronacharya and Kripi, Ashwatthama is considered to be the fifth incarnation of Lord Shiva.

2. Ashwatthama possessed knowledge of various divine weapons such as Narayanastra, Brahmastra and Brahmashirastra, which made him one of the most formidable warriors of the Mahabharata. However, his impulsive nature ultimately led to his downfall.

3. According to Mahabharata, the name “Ashwatthama” means “the sacred voice resembling that of a horse” which is due to the unique cry he uttered at birth. He is also known by other names like Dronaputra, Guruputra and Kripi Kumara.

4. At his birth, Ashwatthama wore a divine gem on his forehead, which gave him dominion over all beings among men and protected him from hunger, thirst, fatigue, aging, disease and even weapons. This gem made him almost indestructible and immortal.

5. He was known as a formidable Maharathi who fought on the side of the Kauravas against the Pandavas in the Kurukshetra War.

6. After Ashwatthama tried to kill Uttara’s unborn child, Lord Krishna cursed him with immortality. Ashwatthama is believed to still be walking through Narmada Ghat. People who perform the Narmada Parikrama can meet him there.

Coming back to the film, apart from Amitabh, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone will also star alongside Disha Patani. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the release date of the film is yet to be announced.
