Netflix this morning revealed the regular and guest cast of the upcoming second season of its hit spin-off series “Addams Family.” Wednesdayunder the heading Jenna Ortega.
The announcement revealed that three season one regulars, whose characters were alive and well in the finale, Percy Hynes White, Jamie McShane And Naomi J OgawaHe will not return in this role next season.
Of the three, only McShane is set to reprise his role as Sheriff Donovan Galpin as a guest star, likely completing the story of his character, who was devastated in the season one finale when it was discovered that his son Tyler (Hunter Doohan) was the one Hyde , after the sheriff shot and temporarily incapacitated the monster.
In the final minutes of the episode, Tyler was arrested but attempted to escape by transforming into a Hyde. His storyline will continue as Doohan will appear as a series regular next season.
There has been a lot of fan speculation about the Sheriff Galpin character, with some suggesting he could be killed off in Season 2.
Galpin’s duties could be taken over by his deputy, Ritchie Santiago, as Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, who portrays her, will be promoted to series regular next season.
White played psychic Nevermore student Xavier Thorpe, one of the two male leads and a romantic interest for Wednesday (Ortega), who saved his life in the season finale.
Ortega, who will be a producer on season two, has hinted that the show will have a greater focus on horror rather than teen romance next season. Still, Xavier played an important role in the first season, and the finale put him in a position to move on.
Last fall, rumors began circulating that White’s character might be written off, although sources told Deadline at the time that his option had been extended along with the rest of the main cast.
White issued a statement last June in which he pushed back on now-deleted anonymous social media posts from January 2023 that accused him of sexual misconduct. In his message to fans, White vehemently denied any allegations.
As for Ogawa, her vampire student Yoko Tanaka, a member of the secret Nightshade Society, spent the first season largely in the background, with diminishing screen time and no major storyline. So it didn’t make sense for Ogawa to return and she’s moving on, I hear.
The second season cast includes recurring series regulars Ortega Wednesday, Emma Myers (Enid), Joy Sunday (Bianca), Hunter Doohan (Tyler), Victor Dorobantu (Thing), Moosa Mostafa (Eugene) and Georgie Farmer (Ajax); New series regulars Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort, Billie Piper as Capri, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter and Noah Taylor joining the show, as well as Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams) and Isaac Ordonez ( Pugsley Addams) and Lewis-Nyawo, who were promoted from returning/recurring stars.
The second season’s guest stars also include Joanna Lumley as Grandmother, Thandiwe Newton as Dr. Fairburn, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo and Joonas Suotamo, with Fred Armisen reprising his role as Uncle Fester and Christopher Lloyd.
