Was Porsche’s “K1” Prototype Really a 2026 Cayenne EV?

  • Large electric Porsche SUV prototype spied in testing again
  • Appears to have active vents in the nose and space for three rows of seats
  • New information says it’s not the upcoming K1, but the 2026 Cayenne EV

Porsche’s research and development team was back on the road testing two large new electric SUVs that will hit the market in the next three years. But which large electric SUVs from Porsche are they? The last time we spied one, information suggested it was Porsche’s upcoming K1 flagship, but new information suggests that the prototype and the two seen in the latest spy images are the Hide 2026 Porsche Cayenne EV.

We know that both models are available and will be available soon as Porsche has confirmed this. Arriving in 2027 as a halo model in Porsche’s non-sports car range, the all-electric K1 will go into battle with the most expensive versions of the upcoming Range Rover EV and serve as a cheaper alternative to Ferrari’s first electric car.

But a year before the K1 lands, Porsche will also launch the Cayenne EV. The combustion-engined Cayenne was facelifted and modernized last year to keep it running for years to come. However, there will be an electric version in 2026.

The fossil fuel-free Cayenne will ride on the same PPE platform that both the Macan Electric and Audi Q6 e-tron already use, meaning it will share very little hardware with its ICE counterpart . Of course, the Cayenne will be both longer and wider than the Macan, and we’ve already seen Macan test cars with wider tracks covered by tacked arches that we assume are mules for the Cayenne EV and its Audi Q8 e-tron cousin were.

If it’s the Cayenne, it will bear a strong family resemblance with the Macan EV on the nose, which will feature Porsche’s latest long-range LED headlights. There also appear to be active flaps in the lower bumper and traditional pull-style door handles, rather than the flush door handles that most automakers are switching to.

    Was Porsche's

Judging by the size of this prototype’s wheelbase and rear door, it almost looks like Porsche has made room for a third row of seats, something the Cayenne has never had before, but other cars that use the same platform, like the Audi, have Q7, have.

Expect the Cayenne Electric to offer the same basic dual-motor powertrain options as the Macan, but with the addition of more powerful variants at the top of the range. The base Macan 4 produces 402 hp (300 kW) and 479 lb-ft (648 Nm) of torque and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 4.9 seconds, while the turbo makes 630 hp (470 kW) performs. and 833 lb-ft (1,128 Nm) and can reach 60 mph in 3.1 seconds.

The Cayenne is likely to be a little slower because it is heavier, which is why we expect an even larger battery. Both Macan EV models are equipped with a 100 kWh battery and are said to offer an electric range of more than 300 miles (483 km).
