The schools were officially opened and Vanessa Williams is the only teacher we need.

Williams, 61, released her new song and accompanying music video, “Legs (Keep Dancing),” on Friday, April 26, and fans already can’t get enough. “Vanessa Williams just released a new song and video!!!!!! 61 y’all 🗣️ Oh you pop girls are in danger,” one impressed listener wrote about X. “Wait, now Vanessa Williams dropped a bop,” another social media user added.

The song is about not giving up on yourself just because you get older. “Say what you say, expect me to fade / I don’t think about it, I don’t think about it,” Williams sings in the pre-chorus. “I still have a lot of work to do and I’m not nearly done yet. / Not while I still have these legs.”

Her jubilantly defiant attitude continues in the chorus with the lyrics: “They say the legs are the last to go (I keep dancing) / I’m still putting on a show (I keep dancing) / ‘Til I can'” Do it no longer.”

Williams actually continues dancing throughout the video, which shows her performing some key choreography with the help of numerous backup artists.

Ahead of the song’s release, Williams posted a clip of herself entering a rehearsal room as aspiring dancers prepared for their audition. “Let me show these kids,” she captioned the post.

In the comments section Mike Ruizwho directed the video quipped, “Sometimes the kids just need to be taught!!”

The title of the song is a reference to Diahann Carrollmemoir from 2008, Legs are the last to go: aging, acting, getting married and other things I learned the hard way.

“The entire concept was Vanessa’s idea,” co-author Kipper Jones said in a press release, adding that Williams simply knew she wanted to incorporate Carroll’s title somewhere into the song. “[Vanessa] I didn’t know if it was the title of the song or the lyrics or what. I didn’t find that unusual at all. That’s how we came up with “The Comfort Zone” in 1991.”

Earlier this month, Williams announced that her new full-length album will be released later this year.

“What a joy it is to be making new music behind the new album [mic] back with old friends,” she said in a statement. “There is a certain comfort in creating new work in the studio while remembering how many years in this business have brought success, excitement and lasting memories. It is my motivation to continually develop myself. Every challenge is exciting. And more new music to share with my fans is the fuel that lights my fire.”
