Sincerely Women’s Health In an article published on Wednesday, Lloyd opened up about her difficult journey to motherhood.
“I was very naive to think we wouldn’t have any problems getting pregnant,” she wrote. “And that’s how it started. The casualness, whatever happens, turns into disappointment month after month. I started to feel like this was a race against the clock – my 40-year-old biological clock.”
After struggling to get pregnant, Lloyd turned to in vitro fertilization (IVF) – but she initially felt “ashamed” and embarrassed.
“But over time, I realized that they are all human and that many women go through similar problems,” Lloyd wrote. “There is a stigma around needing help or having to undergo fertility treatment.”
Lloyd underwent two rounds of IVF before deciding to approach the third with a “completely different” mindset. When she found out she was pregnant, Lloyd recalled, she and Hollins felt “peace” “for the first time in a long time.”
“It’s still hard to believe I’m pregnant,” she wrote. “It is truly a miracle and we are so excited to be parents!”
While Lloyd noted that it was “not an easy journey,” “but that is true of most things in life that are worthwhile.”
“I was told that nothing I have achieved or experienced in my football life will ever be as great as motherhood,” she wrote. “I know this will change me forever and I’m so excited for the journey.”
