Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

During a recent interview with Comic bookRaka actor Peter Macon discussed the important role archeology plays Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

There was only so much that was actually useful in what was Caesar in the other films. The “monkeys should not kill monkeys, monkeys are strong together, and monkeys and humans live side by side.” Because the idea that stories and fables tend to outlive the truth. They tend to transform, the truth turning into stories and fables as we tell them generation after generation. For many generations, Caesar’s legacy and the roots of what he was about was the only thing Raka was privy to when I went back and watched the other films. What survived, his manifesto, his philosophy. So let’s think of him as an archaeologist who digs up human artifacts and other things and pieces together his own story from them. He presents a very different worldview than Noah and Proximus, as he is aware that there are other clans out there. Proximus is aware that there are other clans out there, but Noah is not. So he’s in the middle of it all, but still trying to figure it out on his own. No one really knows the truth about anything because it’s been so long. So they kind of put it together.

That was useful, and then I had to kind of come up with everything backstory-wise and coordinate with the writers and Wes to get everything in some vague order. And I think that at the end of the day that’s the best thing because it gives the audience space to think about it and figure things out.
