Here’s what Rickey Smiley said about Brian McKnight’s “Estranged Kids.”
Earlier this week, Smiley posted a video message for McKnight’s children on Instagram. In the clip, he explained that he was “stunned and horrified” by the singer’s recent exchange with his children. Of note, McKnight recently went viral for saying one of his children was “born of evil.”
In light of the comment, Smiley sent a message to “all” of McKnight’s children.
“I want to let you know you have a lot of support out here,” he said. “…If anyone forwards this message to the two sons and daughter of Brian McKnight: They are always welcome in the state of Alabama…where there are men and uncles and there are many people who take in…abandoned children of fathers.”
Smiley went on to explain that if McKnight’s children ever felt “unloved” or needed a father figure, there were people like him who would be “more than happy” to take on that role for them.
“You won’t be thrown away. You’re not trash. You are loved [and] They must be respected,” he continued.
Additionally, Smiley captioned his post with a few additional words for McKnight’s children:
“I want #BrianMcKnight’s adult children who have been #rejected to know that they have a lot of support out here. You won’t be thrown away.”

Smiley’s video appeared to reach one of McKnight’s children. Brian McKnight Jr. responded to the clip with a short thank you comment.
“I really appreciate this man! Now all we can do is pray for this man. 🙏🏾,” he wrote.

I’m not talking to Brian or his wife, it’s none of my business. “I’m just responding to a comment from Ricky Smiley…Ricky Smiley…Now it’s time to have a grown-up conversation about these dynamics…”
In the clip, Tyrese stated that he has the utmost respect for Smiley. However, he believes it was “unfair” for Smiley to comment on Brian McKnight’s “specific dynamic” with his family.
“There are certain things that have been done over the years that were nobody’s business and that have contributed to where they are,” he explained. “…Man, the kids out here say a lot of shit, man… The kids out here are doing their best to annoy you. I don’t know what this man… or his children… or anything else.”
Tyrese explained that he has a personal relationship with Brian McKnight. However, they have never discussed McKnight’s family, and he does not believe it is his “business” to seek or share public comment on the matter.
“What I’m talking about is that I feel like it’s not fair to pretend that relationships between men and their children… can’t fall apart,” he said.

Brian McKnight has not yet publicly commented on Tyrese’s statements. As The Shade Room previously reported, the 54-year-old made headlines in mid-April after appearing to discuss his four biological children while also talking about getting rid of the “evil” and “negativity” in his life.
McKnight had four children, Brian Jr., Niko, Briana and Clyde, before marrying and starting a family with his current wife, Leilani.
In the days that followed, McKnight’s ex-wife Julie shared a sharp reaction to his words on social media, according to The Shade Room.
Ultimately, the viral back and forth even prompted McKnight’s son to make sexual allegations against him.
