Toyota Rumion MPV: New G AT Variant Launched for Rs. 13 Lakh

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has introduced a new mid-range automatic variant of the Rumion, which is the badge-engineered version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The MPV was originally launched in August 2023, but now the brand has introduced a new variant with an automatic transmission. Called G AT, this new variant is priced at Rs. 13 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Toyota Rumion G AT costs around Rs. 1.40 lakh, more expensive than its manual version, the G MT. People interested in purchasing this new variant can book it at the merchants or on the company’s website with an initial refundable token amount of Rs. 11,000.

Toyota offers the Rumion in three variants: S, G and V. Previously, the six-speed automatic transmission was only available in the entry-level, top-spec S and V variants. With the introduction of this new G AT variant, the automatic transmission option is now available across the entire range.

Under the hood, the Rumion G AT is powered by the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that delivers a peak power of around 103 PS and a peak torque of 137 Nm. This engine comes with either a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed torque converter automatic. Similar to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota also offers the Rumion with an optional CNG powertrain. However, the same engine in the CNG version produces a reduced output of 88 hp and 121.5 Nm.

The petrol-only manual version has a claimed mileage of 20.51 km/h and the petrol-only automatic version has a slightly lower claimed mileage of 20.11 km/h. The CNG variant, which is only available with a manual transmission, has a stated mileage of 26.11 km/kg.

Technically speaking, there are no differences between the G MT variant and the G AT variant. This mid-range variant offers key features such as keyless entry with push-button start, automatic climate control, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car technology, steering wheel-mounted controls and two-tone alloy wheels.

The car also has a host of safety features including four airbags, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

Prices for the 2024 Toyota Rumion start at Rs. 10.44 lakh for the base S variant and go up to Rs. 13.73 lakh for the top-spec VAT variant (both prices, ex-showroom). Due to high demand, bookings for the CNG variant were temporarily suspended last year but have now been resumed.

In the Indian market, the Toyota Rumion competes with rivals such as the Kia Carens, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 and its own donor vehicle, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The Rumion is not the first car to be launched under the Maruti-Toyota partnership.

Toyota also recently launched the badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx compact SUV coupe Toyota Taisor. Other vehicles developed by Toyota include the Urband Cruiser Hyryder (Grand Vitara), Glanza (Baleno) and the Urban Cruiser (now discontinued, Vitara Brezza). On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki sells the badged version of the Toyota Innova Hycross as Maruti Suzuki Invicto through its premium outlet Nexa.
