“My soon-to-be ex has a girlfriend — a girlfriend who lives with the kids,” Spelling, 50, said during a conversation with the country singer on her “Misspelling” podcast on Tuesday, April 30 Sarah Evans. “And I like her. I really like her a lot. She supports him. They hold each other accountable. You’re sober.”
Spelling went on to say that it was a “completely different” world with Calo.
McDermott, 57, initially announced that he and Spelling had separated in a now-deleted Instagram post uploaded in June 2023. Months later, McDermott sparked romance rumors with Calo in October 2023 when they were photographed holding hands.

A source reported at the time Us weekly exclusively that Spelling and McDermott were “heading for divorce” and that “it had been that way for a while.”
McDermott later revealed this during an interview with the in November 2023 Daily Mail that he had not seen his children since the argument with Spelling that led to his Instagram post in June. (McDermott and Spelling have sons Liam, 17, Finn, 11, and Beau, 7, and daughters Stella, 15, and Hattie, 12.) McDermott said in the interview that he struggles with substance abuse.
“Alcohol made me feel good. “I started feeling good enough until I reached a point where that wasn’t the case anymore – it ended in isolation,” he said at the time. “I ended up drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week, and a handful [prescription medications] alone with a beautiful family in the other room.”
The following month, a source said Us that things are still “chaotic” between the two. “It’s a day-to-day process and things are not entirely amicable,” the source said.
Months later, Spelling officially filed for divorce from McDermott on March 29. When the first episode of her “Misspelling” podcast was released, listeners heard the actress tell her estranged husband that the paperwork had been filed.
“I hate doing this to you when you’re in the middle of work and stuff. You did it,” she told McDermott on the phone. (Only her side of the conversation was recorded.) “It’s just a formality. It’s like a sheet that you have to check off and sign next. Do you have a lawyer? Wait, it’s being shot so I’ve had enough of you? What do you mean?”
She added: “When it comes to ‘whoever files first, the other guy is wrong,’ I feel like I deserve to file first.” Well, I mean, you’ve basically published everything with Daily Mail , like you said, everything you’ve done to me over the years. So I think it would make sense for me to pursue the lawsuit. These are things I would never have revealed to anyone, and you did.”
As the episode continued, she further discussed the demise of their relationship. The spelling revealed that she wanted “that fairytale romance” and that was why she hadn’t filed for divorce sooner.
“It shouldn’t have taken 18 years,” she said. “I think he would say the same thing if he and I really agreed. … It would have been over much sooner.”
