Tori spelling openly admitted that she stayed in her marriage out of fear for the future Dean McDermott has passed the expiry date.
In conversation with Shannen Doherty On the Thursday, April 25, episode of her podcast misSPELLING, Spelling, 50, said preconceived notions about herself prevented her from moving forward.
“One of my biggest fears, and this may have made me stay longer, is that I feel like in our world it’s difficult to be with a man without him feeling emasculated,” said Spelling. “Not by our actions, but by who we are and what we have been labeled by society.”
Spelling filed for divorce from McDermott, 57, in March after 18 years of marriage. Spelling described the separation as still “fresh” and was pessimistic about finding a new partner who could treat her on an equal level.
“We’re not just women who make money,” she told Doherty, 53. “We’re women who have power, we’re women who have fame.” I don’t know it any other way. I feel guilty. How am I ever going to be with a man without making him feel worse than me because of my status?”

“There are men who have their own status,” Doherty continued. “Maybe in a completely different area. Maybe a man is a partner at one of the top law firms. Everything he’s done – going to school, getting his degree, getting an internship, working his way up the career ladder – has shown that he’s a really hard worker with a ton of perseverance and believes in himself enough to get there. “
Doherty also expressed sympathy for Spelling’s situation, acknowledging that it can be difficult “to be with a woman who can book a table at any restaurant.”
Still, Doherty insisted that Spelling could find a partner who would be proud of her success.
“Not a man to dominate,” Doherty said, “not a man to belittle you, not a man to have any warning signs.”
Despite the encouraging words, Spelling was unsuccessful. She replied, “At this point in my life, and that’s all I know right now, I disagree with you.”
“Every guy I’ve ever been in a relationship with always says, ‘There’s a lot of shit that suits me,'” Spelling explained. “I’m sorry, it’s the Tori spelling.”
