The Special Edition BMW 1 Series is the Brand’s Most Affordable Car in Australia

BMW has revealed Sports collection versions of it 1 series And 2 Series Gran Coupe Special edition family, with the 118i Sport becoming the brand’s most affordable model.

The 118i Sport is priced at $54,900 drive awaywhich undercuts the existing 118i, which retails at $54,800 (excluding on-road costs) – which works out to around $60,000 on the road.

The related 220i Gran Coupe Sport is priced at Drive away $64,900. The standard 220i costs $65,200 before it hits the road.

Both models receive extended M high-gloss Shadowline exterior strips as well as heated front seats and a panoramic sunroof.

The 220i Sport also gets Sensatec synthetic leather upholstery.

These features are in addition to the standard tariff on the 118i and 220i, which includes:

  • 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster

BMW says it has a “standard” suspension tune and hasn’t specified whether they’re using the M Sport tune found in the regular 118i and 220i Gran Coupe. We contacted the company for clarification.

They have the Driving Assistant and Parking Assistant technology packages, which include:

  • Autonomous emergency braking
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rear cross traffic warning
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • backup camera
  • Parking sensors front and rear

Both models also receive metallic paint as standard, with the following paint finishes available:

  • Black sapphire
  • Melbourne Red
  • M Misano blue
  • Snapper Rocks Blue
  • Skyscraper gray

The 118i Sport uses a 1.5 liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine to produce 103kW of power and 220 Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The 220i Gran Coupe Sport uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 141kW And 280 Nmpaired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Both models have front-wheel drive.

These are not the first Sport Collection models to be offered in Australia. BMW will launch the 330i Sport and the X3 xDrive30i Sport in 2023.

The 330i Sport was unique among these special edition models in that it lost several safety features such as front cross-traffic alert and lane departure warning, and dropped several thousand dollars in price.

However, like the others, it received some extras such as a sunroof and heated front seats.
