The Porsche Macan EV 2025 is a Changed Car for Changed Times

The Porsche Macan has been the automaker’s number one sales driver practically since it went on sale, so the Germans are taking some risk by replacing their main model with an electric vehicle. But that didn’t stop Porsche from leaning on and throwing in everything they’ve learned the Taycan super sedan and fFirst generation Macan at the new Macan 4 and Macan Turbo.

Porsche, like most other automakers, can read the signs of the times when it comes to internal combustion engines, so in some ways it makes perfect sense that the company would do this this huge leap for the new car. However, I can’t imagine another automaker completely replacing its most popular internal combustion engine vehicle with an electric car. It’s a gamble for sure, but after spending hours behind the wheel the brand new and fully electric Macanthe smart decision is that Porsche will do it.

Full disclosure: Porsche flew me first class to the French Riviera, put me up in a five-star hotel and fed me food from a Michelin-star restaurant so I could drive the brand new Macan range. It may be an exaggeration, but it was nice to live like the 1 percent for a few days.

It’s about just as big a change between the model generations as far as I can remember. Basically, everything you knew about the old car (which is still for sale if you’re not yet into electric vehicles) has been abandoned for the second-generation Macan. It is the first Porsche built on the 800-volt Premium Platform Electric architecturewhat was developed jointly by Porsche and Audi – so get ready to see it often. No matter which electric Macan you choose, you’ll get a dual-motor setup (one on each axle) and a 100 kWh battery in the middle.

The only big difference between the Macan 4 and the Macan turbo is power. For $80,450 including destination, the base Macan 4 gets you 382 horsepower (or 402 hp). start control) and 479 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to get that Entry level The transition from 0 to 60 mph takes just 4.9 seconds, and top speed will reach 136 mph.

If you’re a crazy guy like me and need more power, the Turbo is for you. For a starting price of $106,950 you get 576 PS (630 hp). Start control) and a breathtaking torque of 833 lb-ft. This allows the 5,400-pound crossover to accelerate to 60 in a sickening 3.1 seconds, and if you keep pushing it, you’ll reach its top speed of 161 mph. Regardless of the power trim, both Macans transmit power to the wheels via a single-speed automatic transmission – There is no Taycan-derived two-speed transmission here.

But don’t worry. More power isn’t the only thing you get when you pay the $26,500 premium for the Turbo over the 4. You get too Porsche’s Torque Vectoring Plus systemLED matrix headlights, a 360-degree camera, various trim and exterior design elements, a standard Bose audio system, 18-way sport seats, larger front brakes, an extended leather package and a slightly different – and smaller – steering wheel.

When it comes to range, well, we don’t know yet. The EPA hasn’t released its numbers yet, but according to Porsche’s international website, the Macan 4 will have a range of between 321 and 381 miles on the optimistic WLTP cycle, while the Macan Turbo will have a range of between 322 and 367 miles. part of The relatively impressive range of the Macan This is due to its solidly low drag coefficient of 0.25. For context: the departing car had a drag coefficient of 0.35 and the Tesla Model Y can achieve 0.23. With Porsche’s new architecture, the new Macan can be increased from 10 to 80 percent to up to 270 kW in just 21 minutes. Not too shabby, I’d say.

The 2025 Macan may on paper be a big departure from the crossover it replaces, but It still drives very much like a Porsche. You’ll be hard-pressed to find an electric vehicle, especially an electric crossover, that drives even half as well as either version of the new Macan. Their dynamism does full justice to the badge on the steering wheel.

Straight-line speed isn’t really the be-all and end-all here. Sure, it’s quick off the line, but most high-performance electric vehicles are. The Macan is particularly impressive in the curves. The brakes are more than adequate to pull the crossover’s girth into a corner, and turn-in is super direct, helped by the $2,040 option Rear wheel steering (a first for the Macan).

Once you’re in a corner you can really feel everything through the steering wheel. I’ve driven a lot of electric cars at this point in my career, and few are as communicative as I am the new Macan. Due to the almost perfect weight distribution, the car drives around corners in a neutral and undramatic manner. The one thing you really can’t escape is the weight. Secure, Porsche engineers I masked much of it well, but there’s not much you can do to hide 5,400 pounds. Every now and then you can clearly feel the strain on the front PASM air suspension when braking hard. The Macan isn’t a perfect corner-carver, but it’s almost as good as an electric crossover gets.

On the small streets in South FranceThe Macan felt pretty big, but compared to everything else it really isn’t. The 2025 Macan is 188.4 inches long and 84.7 inches wide, which is only about two inches longer and two inches wider than the previous model. That means it’s also only 0.6 inches longer than that Audi Q6 E-Tron with which it shares a platform. You really won’t notice the increased area anywhere except on a narrow French city street – what I’m saying is that us Americans will be fine.

One place where the Macan has really grown is the wheelbase, which is now 113.9 inches. That’s about 3.5 inches longer than the old car, and much of that goes to rear legroom, which was a bit of an issue with this modelhe eliminates Macan. It’s still not exactly spacious, but with my height of 1.80 m, I fit behind me almost comfortably. No matter which equipment you choose, you will be treated to a beautiful and well-finished interior. If overexposure to gadgets keeps you away from an electric vehicle, this may be right for you. That’s not to say the new Macan doesn’t have a lot to offer in terms of technology, it’s just more cleverly integrated into the background so as not to distract the driver.

If you’ve spent even a second in one Porsche product, you will immediately feel at home. Unlike the Macan EV’s underpinnings, the interior is more of an evolution than a revolution. To go along with the three screens (or two if you don’t opt for the $1,570 10.9-inch passenger display), you get buttons for HVAC controls And a volume control. Over the highly configurable 12.6-inch Curve Digital instrument cluster, you can also opt for a $2,520 model Augmented reality head-up display This will project arrows onto the windshield as if you were in a video game. It’s very neat but very expensive.

You also have three Audio systems choose from. $990 Bose system is optional on the Macan 4 but standard on the Turbo, and you can pay a few grand more for both cars a Burmester system. Honestly, it’s not the best sound system in the world, but it’s also the only one I was able to try. So I can’t say whether the Bose system is better or worse.

Like all Porsches, There are approximately 1,000,000,000 different options, color schemes, materials and features you can choose to create the perfect Macan for you. However, keep in mind that prices can quickly skyrocket the more you add. Luckily for us Americans, we get some features by default that other countries (losers) don’t get. All US Macans are equipped with one Panoramic roofdefault PASM air suspension and a Driver Assistance Suite These include traffic sign recognition, parking assistant, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control. Thank you, Porsche!

The Macan 4 and Macan Turbo 2025 represent a big risk Porsche. The way things are going right now, it could take some time Mass adoption of electric vehicles is actually happeningTherefore, replacing your most popular vehicle with an electric vehicle is certainly a gamble. But if any car is up to this rather monumental task, it’s almost certainly the new Macan. Few cars on the road – and even fewer electric vehicles – are capable of combining the power, handling and luxury you get from Porsche’s latest crossover offering. Just be prepared to pay for the privilege.
