According to an official post from the device maker, Batman: Arkham’s Shadow, the latest adventure in the decade-old Batman: Arkham series, is coming to the Meta Quest 3 VR headset in late 2024.
“Evil lurks in the streets. Gotham City is in danger. And you are the only one who can save it,” reads Oculus’ slogan. The game will be exclusive to Meta Quest. A theatrical trailer is expected on June 7 at 5:00 p.m. EDT during Summer Game Fest 2024. Batman: “Arkham’s Shadow is developed by Camouflaj and Oculus Studios in collaboration with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics.
Batman: Arkham’s next quest is VR only
The Arkham series of Batman video games are some of the best gaming versions of the Dark Knight. The series follows Rocksteady Games’ 2009 Batman: Arkham Asylum and, in the game’s later settings, traces the descent of Joker and Batman’s relationship from the confines of Arkham Asylum to the sprawling streets of Gotham.
Arkham Shadow’s announcement trailer contains many visual clues, such as a stampede of rodents and a particular mask in the gutter.
This would suggest a Batman villain synonymous with the vermin that plague the streets and prison cells of Blackgate. Otis Flannegan, the Pied Piper. Going back to the Arkham trilogy, you can solve the puzzle “The Pied Piper needed more than just his charm to lead his army” by finding Flanegan’s mask and gloves in a ventilation shaft.
“He can cause as much damage inside the prison as outside, using his loyal pets to deliver messages and transport materials within the labyrinth of ventilation ducts that wind through the vast prison,” his case notes say found in the original Arkham game.
Nothing official has been released about the villain other than the video announcement, which shows the caped crusader navigating the night air in a first-person perspective.
Batman: Arkham VR, released in 2017, was the previous VR version of Bruce Wayne’s vigilante role, so this is our first return to this setting in some time.
It remains to be seen whether the Ratcatcher will be the main villain of the gaming set, but all indications point to a battle with the rodents in the gloomy Gotham night in VR via Meta Quest 3.
Warner Bros is hoping this version of the DC Universe will be better received after the raging garbage fire that was Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. As we reported, the game forced Sony to issue refunds for the supposed AAA title.
