The Italian Region of Puglia Showcases Its Emerging Filmmakers in LA with the First NFMLA Partnership

The southern Italian region of Apulia is is showcasing five of its emerging filmmakers in LA as part of a first-ever partnership with the NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) Monthly Film Festival later this month.

As part of the week-long program, which runs from May 30 to June 2, the selected Puglia filmmakers will screen their work as part of the NFMLA Monthly Film Festival.

You will also participate in networking meetings with local professionals at studios, streamers and agencies, as well as live curated panels and media interviews.

There will be two performances. The first event on May 30 at the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles in Westwood will feature short films: San Vitu rocks by Fausto Romano, Albertine, where are you? by Maria Guidone, La Pescara by Lucia Loré, Great Jesus by Vito Palumbo and Leah and the flamingo by Antonio De Palo.

The films were selected as part of the InFocus: Puglia Cinema program at the NFMLA Monthly Film Festival under the auspices of the Italian Consulate of Los Angeles. They represent different genres and settings and capture the essence of Puglia through their different storylines and settings.

There will be a second private, industry-only screening at NeueHouse Hollywood on May 30th.

The showcase marks the first collaboration between NFMLA, the Apulia Film Commission and Pugliapromozione.

LA-based Italian journalist Silvia Bizio initiated the event in collaboration with NFMLA Executive Director Larry Laboe, NFMLA Program Director Bojana Sandic and General Manager Di Cori, as well as with the support of Anna Maria Tosto, President of the Apulia Film Commission, and Antonio Parente, Director of Apulia Film Commission and Luca Scandale, director of PugliaPromozione.

“Puglia is a country of cinema: not only because of the spectacular locations that are now appreciated worldwide, but also because it is the cradle of young talents who, thanks to the region’s long-term support of cinema, are finding more and more opportunities to express themselves. “,” says Tosto.
