The 2025 Toyota Crown Nightshade is based on the Limited trim but features dark badging, black trim (door handles, mirror caps, shark fin, door trim) and a set of 21-inch matte black wheels. It’s only available in Storm Cloud and Black paint finishes, unlike the rest of the range which retains the same color palette as last year. Despite the dark theme, the Nightshade doesn’t get the Platinum flagship’s extensive bi-tone treatment, distinguished by the black hood, roof and tailgate.

All trim levels come standard with two 12.3-inch displays, a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated front seats. The XLE has a 6-speaker sound system, but the rest of the lineup upgrades to a nicer 11-speaker JBL Premium audio system. New for 2025 is a head-up display, which comes standard on the Platinum, as well as a hands-free system in the trunk. Higher trim levels also offer more sophisticated driver assistance systems compared to the standard Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite, which is standard across the range.

Toyota Crown Nightshade

The Toyota Crown’s purely hybrid powertrain range is expected to be carried over. The XLE, Limited and Nightshade models are equipped with the 2.5-liter engine and two electric motors, which together produce 236 hp (176 kW / 239 hp). This setup is linked to Toyota’s electronic on-demand all-wheel drive system.

The flagship Platinum is the only Crown equipped with the more powerful Hybrid MAX powertrain, which combines a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine with two electric motors. The combined output is 340 hp (254 kW / 345 hp) and is transmitted to all four wheels via a model-specific permanent electronic all-wheel drive. The Platinum also features the Adaptive Variable Suspension, which changes settings depending on the drive mode selected, and the Dynamic Rear Wheel Steering system.

Unfortunately, U.S. buyers don’t have access to special editions of the Toyota Crown like the Adventure Landscape or Matte Metal Limited Edition, which are reserved for the home market of Japan.
