The 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS Appeals to Traditionalists with a Hood Ornament and Faux Grille Bars

The Mercedes-Benz EQS was immediately one of the most controversial designs of the three-pointed star when it was released in 2021. While some were instant fans of it The slippery, egg-like shape of the flagship EV liftback – Best regards – Many traditional Mercedes customers were put off by its design. Mercedes is trying to appeal to these long-time fans with the 2025 EQS facelift, which gives the electric sedan a more elegant front end.

No matter which equipment variant and which styling package, all previous EQS In the place where a grille would normally be, had a black panel with a large star emblem, a motif that spanned the entire surface the EQ series. Although the panel retains the same overall shape, the EQS 2025 instead features three horizontal chrome bars with a central vertical bar, like a gasoline-powered Benz. The EQS also gets Mercedes’ traditional standing hood ornament, its second appearance on an electric vehicle after that the Maybach EQS SUV. Some of my colleagues think the new look is even sillier, but I love it and imagine many brand traditionalists will prefer it.

Aside from the updated grille and standard AMG Line lower bumper design, Mercedes doesn’t seem to have changed anything else about the EQS’s design. Latest spy photos showed a camouflaged EQS LED running lights with three-pointed star in the headlights, so the car could be refreshed again for 2026. Inside, the only design changes are additional chrome trim on the vents.

Another problem area was the EQS’s back seat, which felt too cramped and not luxurious enough for many for a long time S-Class Customers. The rear backrest can now be electrically adjusted between 27 and 36 degrees, and the inside of the seat has more foam padding. An Executive Interior Package increases this setting to 37 degrees and also offers pneumatic seat depth adjustment. The passenger seat can also be folded forward to give the right rear passenger more space. This package also includes rapid heating, neck and shoulder heating, and a pair of rear seat cushions.

The biggest change is the inclusion of a new 118kWh battery pack compared to the 108.4kWh unit in the existing EQS. No range figures have been announced for the US yet, but the European press release states that the 2025 EQS will see a range increase of approximately 11 percent, with an increase of up to 51 miles on the WLTP cycle compared to last year’s model. Mercedes says the 2025 EQS also has stronger energy recovery capabilities through regenerative braking, and a new feature ensures that the brake pads are automatically applied to the discs from time to time, as electric vehicles can travel long distances without ever being used must.

Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but Mercedes says the 2025 EQS will arrive in U.S. dealerships later in 2024. I’m already a big fan of the EQS’s handling, and these subtle updates should make it more appealing to a broader group of customers.
