The Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe family has a new member in the United States with the arrival of the 2024 Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe. The local launch of this new model comes five months after the vehicle was announced in foreign markets. It will arrive at US retailers this summer, but local pricing has not yet been announced.

Like other “53”-badged models in the Mercedes-AMG lineup, the CLE 53 Coupe will serve as a middle ground between the standard models and the inevitable CLE 63. It is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six working alongside a 48-liter engine. Volt on-board electrical system and integrated starter generator. This small electric motor assists the engine at lower speeds, producing 23 hp and 151 lb-ft (205 Nm), while the engine alone produces 443 hp and 413 lb-ft, or 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) at 10-second overboost -Function activated.

An AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission works alongside the engine, transmitting power to all four wheels via a fully variable 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. Other systems include active rear axle steering, which turns the rear wheels up to 2.5 degrees in the opposite direction to the front wheels at up to 100 km/h, while turning them up to 0.7 degrees in the same direction at higher speeds direction takes.

While it would be easy to dismiss the CLE 53 Coupe as not being a full-fledged AMG model, it is not lacking in driving modes. For example, there are five AMG Dynamic Select driving modes, including Sport+ and Individual settings, as well as three settings for ESC and all-wheel drive. In addition, AMG engineers have developed three different steering weights that vary depending on the driving mode.
In a straight line, the new Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in a claimed 4 seconds and reaches the top speed at an electronically limited 155 mph (250 km/h).
Local buyers can optionally book the new CLE 53 Coupé with a Dynamic Plus package. This pack includes a new racing driving program that adds a drift mode. The Dynamic Plus package also includes active engine mounts, a microfiber steering wheel and red-painted brake calipers.
As an option, Mercedes-AMG also offers an AMG Performance Studio package, which adds eye-catching flics to the front and rear of the CLE 53 as well as a larger rear lip spoiler and a new diffuser. Two AMG Night packages and two AMG Carbon Fiber packages were also announced.
