Last week Bentley announced details of its new PHEV V8 engine and successor to the W12, and this week the company is unveiling the first model to receive this powertrain. The 2025 Continental GT will hit the market in June and delivers even more power than the previous W12 model, which will be phased out this summer.

Bentley has released two images of the new car, wrapped in light camouflage. They show that while the design team has retained the old car’s muscular stance and powerful rear ends – both inspired by the 1952 R Type Continental – it has made some notable visual improvements recently seen on limited edition Mulliner projects.

The old car’s quad lamp arrangement has been reduced to a single pair of oval lamps, each with Cleopatra-style eyeliner flourishes protruding from each corner, just like the lamps seen on the 2021 Bacalar. The slimmer taillights also appear to be inspired by those of the Bacalar, but while that car had a relatively tall and upright grille, the new Conti appears shorter and wider and slopes slightly backwards for better aerodynamics.

It’s a handsome coupe, but might disappoint anyone who was hoping the bolder design ideas of the $2 million Batur would be passed on to the merely expensive Continental GT, as well as the GTC, which we’ll no doubt meet in the coming months.

Some buyers may also be disappointed that Bentley’s W12 is no longer an option, as the automaker has ditched the big engine this year. But what the new Continental’s single drivetrain offers in cylinders, it makes up for in horses. Bentley’s first hybrid application, based on the 542 hp (550 hp) VW Group V8 previously available in non-electrified form in the brand’s other vehicles, produces 771 hp (782 hp) and 738 lb-ft, compared to 650 HP (659 hp) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) for the last W12 coupe.

It also offers an electric range of 50 miles (80 km) and drives all four wheels via a more sophisticated chassis that combines active four-wheel drive with torque vectoring, four-wheel steering, an electronic rear LSD and a 48-volt electric anti-roll bar and new adaptive dual valve dampers. Bentley doesn’t provide any performance figures, but zero to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) in about 3 seconds and a top speed of almost 210 miles per hour (338 km/h) seems likely.
