  • Tesla has continued to cut more jobs in recent weeks.

Elon Musk continues to dig deeper at Tesla. According to affected workers who posted about the cuts on social media, the company sent out another round of layoff notices Sunday evening.

The latest round of cuts means the company’s employees will be laid off for the fourth consecutive year. At least seven Tesla workers said on LinkedIn that they received layoff notices on Sunday.

“After watching my team gradually shrink week by week since mid-April, I received the dreaded ‘Hello Employees’ email this Sunday afternoon,” a Tesla employee wrote on LinkedIn.

Another worker shared a screenshot of her layoff email on LinkedIn, which showed that her last day of work would be May 5th.

A Tesla spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment before publication.

Workers at the automaker previously told Business Insider that the ongoing waves of layoff notices had left them unsettled and many looking for opportunities outside the company.

“I keep waiting for Elon to send us another email and tell us they’re finally done laying people off,” said a current Tesla employee who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the terms of his employment speak. “We need some level of closure or a sign that we no longer have to worry about losing our jobs.”

Since Elon Musk first announced on April 14 that Tesla would cut more than 10% of its workforce, workers have continued to receive layoff notices in waves. At the time, Musk said the cuts were due to a “duplication of roles and job functions in certain areas,” according to a screenshot of the April email seen by BI. A few hours after this memo, the company began informing affected employees of the termination. However, some employees didn’t find out until they tried to log into a Tesla facility.

In the weeks that followed, Tesla’s workforce cuts affected various teams – from recruiters and the marketing team to Tesla’s Supercharger team. Some Tesla recruiters have been laid off, as BI first reported.

Musk reportedly told executives last week that the company needed to become “very strict about headcount.”

Musk also now has fewer Tesla executives

At least six executives have left the company in the past month.

On the same day, Tesla announced its first round of cuts Two executives resigned by the company. Drew Baglino, vice president of powertrain and electrical engineering, and Rohan Patel, vice president of public policy and business development, said on X that they left Tesla on Sunday. At the time, Patel told TechCrunch that he had decided to leave the company due to major “overall changes” at Tesla. According to a report by The Information, the reshuffle left Musk overseeing 35 direct reports.

Before the cuts, Tesla employed over 140,000 workers worldwide. Notices filed by Tesla under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act show that the company has already laid off thousands of workers at its locations in California and Texas.

The latest round of layoffs comes at a time when Tesla is facing a crisis slower demand for its electric cars. The carmaker reported lower delivery figures than expected in April.
