While Healy and Swift’s 2023 letter made headlines, the singers were first linked nearly a decade earlier. In 2014, they exchanged phone numbers, publicly supported each other and flirted, but never entered into an official relationship.
That changed after Swift and Alwyn broke up in 2023, but the long-awaited romance only lasted a month.
Now, after Swift’s affair, fans are looking back at the affair again The Tortured Poets Department releasing the double album on Friday, with many speculating that Healy may have served as inspiration for some of Swift’s new songs.

It is believed that the couple first met while Swift was out with friends Selena Gomez And Ellie GouldingIn 2014, he attended The 1975’s Los Angeles concert. Shortly afterwards, Swift performed was photographed wears a T-shirt advertising The 1975 and Healy got discovered in a T-shirt promoting the singer’s album, 1989.
Healy apparently confirmed that he met Swift at his concert later that month, telling the radio show Shazam Top 20 (via AND! News), “I met Taylor Swift. That was really nice. We exchanged numbers. Lets see what happens.”
As to whether he would date Swift, Healy said: “I mean, what the fuck am I supposed to do? Dating Taylor Swift? She’s a sensation, I wouldn’t say no.”

The romance rumors continued to swirl as Swift was present another concert by The 1975, this time with Lily Aldridge And Karlie Klossbut Healy quickly ended the speculation the following month.
“We met, we exchanged numbers in the same way that many people in this world do, and we chatted occasionally,” he told Australian broadcaster 2DayFM (per AND! News). “She’s the biggest pop star in the world and I’m in Australia. There is no relationship or anything. It’s just funny how people really, really accept that.”

In an interview with Q MagazineHealy said it would have been “emasculating” for him to date Swift, with whom he had a “flirting.”
“I don’t really do anything else, so that doesn’t leave me much room to go out or bang someone,” he told the outlet ELLE. “The one time I actually flirted with a girl it ended up going everywhere… I mean, I got it.” AND! News and people were like, “Who is Matt Healy?” So that was cool, but I didn’t make a big deal about it myself.
“There’s really no reason to talk about it because if she wasn’t Taylor Swift we wouldn’t be talking about her,” he continued. “She didn’t have a big impact on my life. It’s just interesting to me how interested the world is in Taylor Swift.”
He added: “If I had dated Taylor Swift, I would have been like, ‘God damn it! I’m not Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.’ You know, ‘Shit.’ This is also a man’s thing, a demasculinizing, emasculating thing.”
Shortly afterwards, Healy published an open letter in which he claimed that his quotes had been “taken completely out of context”. He further clarified that he and Swift never dated, but despite speculation that they did, he was “immersed in a celebrity world that I found confusing and frightening.”

Amid rumors that The 1975 would appear on Swift’s album, midnightHealy took to social media to call the speculation “fake news.” However, the following month Healy announced that his band did recorded a collaboration with Swift for her album, but it didn’t make it.
“It happened for reasons that cannot be criticized,” he said. “She’s gorgeous.”

Swift wowed audiences at the 1975 London show when she made a surprise appearance and performed her song “Anti-Hero” for the first time. She also covered the band’s track, “The City.”
May 2023
The month after that ET exclusively reported Swift had put an end to that Joe Alwyn after six years together, Healy was present the Nashville stop of Swift’s Eras Tour. She were photographed together shortly afterwards and were even spotted Holding hands during an outing.

Swift’s 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Departmentwas released on April 19th. Fans were surprised by a lot of the content as it seemed to focus on Healy, even though their romance was short-lived.
The title track from Swift’s album It is believed to be about Healy. In the song, Swift sings, “You left your typewriter in my apartment / Straight from the tortured poet department / I guess some things I never say / Like, ‘Who uses a typewriter anyway?'”
This line points to Healy, thanks to a previous video interview he did GQin which he said: “It’s not that romantic to have a notebook, but I also really like typewriters. I don’t have one with me because it’s really inconvenient, but the thing is with typewriters and writing with pen on paper, there is a kind of commitment that comes with the ceremony. So you have to concentrate a little better.
Swift’s songs “But Daddy I Love Him,” “Fresh Out the Slammer,” “Guilty As Sin?”, “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” and “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” are also included It is believed to be about Healy.
