Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif picked his Team India squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who had the golden touch with the ball in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, couldn’t find a place in it find the team.
Mohammad Kaif chose Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma as his team’s two openers for the T20 World Cup 2024. The duo had excellent contact with the bat in IPL 2024. While the captain has amassed over 300 runs, Jaiswal scored a sensational century last year.
Kaif then picked Virat Kohli as the No. 3 batsman in the team. The batsman has been in top form in the ongoing IPL against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. With over 400 runs, he is the leading run-getter in the tournament and is so far the only batsman in the league to cross the 400-run mark in the league.
Suryakumar Yadav also found a place in Mohammad Kaif’s team at No. 4. The Mumbai Indians batsman returned to cricket after an injury in the IPL and has been quite good with the bat so far as he has scored two half-centuries in the league for the Mumbai Indians scored.
Mohammad Kaif then selected Rishabh Pant as the keeper-batsman in the Indian team for the 2024 T20 World Cup. There has been a lot of debate over the place of the goalkeeper in the team, with KL Rahul and Sanju Samson being great shooters and good in IPL 2024.
But Rishabh Pant has looked the best out of all of them by far. The Delhi Capitals captain has over 340 runs to his name and reports suggest that the keeper-batsman will be the first-choice wicketkeeper. Mohammad Kaif then picked Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja as the three all-rounders.
Besides Axar and Jadeja, Kaif picked Kuldeep Yadav as the third spinner in the team. He believes that the team should play all three players in the starting XI as the pitches in the United States of America and the Caribbean are slow and he also stated that India should bat up to No. 8 in the tournament.
Mohammad Kaif then continued voting Sandeep Sharma, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh and KL Rahul are the other four players in India’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. All the players have been sensational in the IPL and are one of the main reasons for their team’s success in the league.
According to Mohammad Kaif, India should also have three reserve players in Yuzvendra Chahal, Avesh Khan and Sanju Samson. The fact that Rajasthan Royals didn’t have a spinner in the team was a surprise as the leg-spinner was simply exceptional in the IPL.
Yuzvendra Chahal is the joint leading wicket-taker in IPL 2024. The leg-spinner was extremely unlucky as he was not part of the team in the last two World Cups either.
