T20 World Cup 2024: Wasim Akram Leaves Pakistan as He Prepares to Train This Team’s Bowlers Ahead of the World Cup

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has taken a big step for the national team in preparing for the upcoming tournament ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the Caribbean. In fact, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has roped in Pakistan pace legend Wasim Akram for a special role ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024.

In an official statement, the SLC confirmed that Wasim Akram will conduct a comprehensive two-day training program for Sri Lankan cricketers and coaches. Sri Lanka’s international players, SLC high performance coaches and coaches from major clubs in the country will take part in this training program.

Akram, one of the greatest fast bowlers the game has ever seen, has already arrived in Sri Lanka on Wednesday, May 1st and will begin his training program on Thursday, May 2nd. Sri Lankan players will receive valuable insights and guidance from legendary cricketers over these two days.

During his stay in Sri Lanka, Akram will lead a total of five sessions, each designed to enhance the skills and expertise of SLC Pace Academy, High-Performance Center (HPC) and coaches from prominent cricket clubs across the island.

Additionally, as part of his duties, Akram will closely monitor and provide guidance to Sri Lanka’s national players as they prepare for the upcoming season T20 World Cup in 2024. His wealth of experience and expertise is expected to provide valuable support to players at this prestigious event.

The SLC said in an official statement: “The program marks Sri Lanka Cricket’s initiative to bring in the necessary expertise to strengthen the coaching strength of the SLC High Performance Center and the Major Club system in the country. The decision to invite Akram was taken by the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket headed by Mr. Shammi Silva, President of Sri Lanka Cricket.”

Sri Lanka begins preparations for the 2024 T20 World Cup with a practice tournament

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka cricket team will launch a three-team T20 practice tournament as part of the national team’s preparation for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup starting May 2. However, Sri Lanka has not yet announced the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Three teams named Yellow, Green and Red, each consisting of 14 members, participate in this tournament. Wanindu Hasaranga will lead “Team Yellow”, Charith Asalanka will lead “Team Red” and Janith Liyanage will lead “Team Green”.

The opener of the T20 practice tournament will be between Team Yellow and Team Red on Thursday, May 2nd, followed by a clash between Team Red and Team Green on May 4th, and then Team Green will meet in the third T20 on May 5th -Play on Team Yellow.

The fourth game of the tournament will feature a battle between Team Red and Team Yellow on May 8th, followed by Team Green vs Team Red on May 10th, and the final game will be between Team Green and Team Yellow on May 11th.
