Indian captain Rohit Sharma opened his game under the leadership of Hardik Pandya for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He stated that it is nothing new for him as he has played under many captains.
For the first time in a decade, Rohit is playing as a lone batsman in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The opening batsman had captained Mumbai Indians since 2013 but was removed as captain before 2024.
Mumbai Indians gave leadership role to Hardik Pandya, who was transferred from Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2024. This came as a surprise to many as Rohit Sharma was simply exceptional as the leader of the IPL and also led the team to the IPL 5 title.
Many fans expressed their disappointment over the way Mumbai Indians handled the opening senior match and there were also some reports claiming that Rohit Sharma was not even informed by the team management before being named Team leader was sacked in the IPL.
During the pre-T20 World Cup 2024 press conference, Rohit Sharma was asked whether he should play IPL as captain and then captain in T20 World Cup 2024. he accepted. He explained:
“I was captain. Not being captain and then being captain again. That’s part of life. Not everything will go the way you want. It was a great experience. Earlier in my life I wasn’t a captain either and I played under different captains. This is nothing.” New to me. I have always tried to do what is required as a player and I have tried that in the last month too.
Rohit Sharma will captain the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024. The batsman will also be captain Hardik Pandya. He will have a huge responsibility as captain and hopes to end the title drought for the Indian national cricket team.
I wanted four spinners – Rohit Sharma – in the Indian squad
Rohit Sharma also spoke about India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. He explained that they needed four spinners in the team and that’s why they picked Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. He added that they had examined the technical aspect of selecting four spinners as the matches would begin in the morning. He added:
“I wanted four spinners – the game probably starts at 10am, it’s a bit of a technicality to pick four spinners.”
