Amid all the batting drama, one of the best batsmen in the world, Virat Kohlihas earned his well-deserved place in the Indian squad for the upcoming season ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
The Ajit Agarkar-led Indian selection committee announced Team India’s final squad for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup on Tuesday, April 30. However, soon after the announcement by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), fans expressed their feelings about Kohli’s selection. While many welcomed the BCCI’s decision, some criticized Kohli’s selection.
Notably, Rohit Sharma, who has already been confirmed as the captain of the Indian national cricket team for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, will have Hardik Pandya as his deputy for the mega ICC event co-hosted by the former West Indies champions and co will be hosted by the United States starting June 1st.
Virat Kohli’s selection for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has left some fans angry
It will begin soon after the conclusion of the ongoing IPL 2024, which played a key role in the selection of many players, including Kohli, but for some players the scenario was not the same, such as Lucknow Super Giants’ in-form captain KL Rahul, who didn’t make it to the group of 15 T20 World Cup squad.
Well, the former India captain has already been endorsed by many former Indian cricketers for the upcoming showpiece event even as some were critical of his strike rate in the ongoing IPL 2024. However, the dashing right-hander showcased his T20 batting talent by becoming the first player to amass 500 runs in the IPL this season.
Kohli currently holds the Orange Cap as the leading run-scorer with 500 runs at an average of 71.42 and a strike rate of over 147 in 10 games so far in the ongoing IPL 2024. Kohli is the huge chaser and since he is in Red- Since he has played both against With pace and spin in top form, he will play a key role in the Men in Blue’s campaign at the multi-nation tournament.
Apart from his recent IPL form, Kohli’s performance in the T20 World Cup is truly impressive as he is the all-time leading run-scorer with 1,141 runs at an average of 81.50 and a strike rate of 131.30. The Indian batting superstar has scored 13 fifties in 27 matches and 25 innings so far and was named Player of the Tournament in the 2014 and 2016 editions of the T20 World Cup.
Now, it will be interesting to see whether Kohli will open with Indian captain Rohit Sharma or bat at No. 3 in his usual batting position for Team India in the upcoming showpiece event. In fact, many expressed a desire to see Kohli open the innings with Rohit as he is in high demand as an opener for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing IPL 2024.
