Fans on Twitter were not happy after all-rounder Hardik Pandya was named as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to take place in the Caribbean and the United States of America from June 1st to June 30th.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday (April 30) named the strong 15-member squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The squad saw some bold decisions as Rinku Singh and KL Rahul were dropped and Yuzvendra Chahal was selected in the team.
One of the things that caught the attention of many was that Hardik Pandya was given the role of vice-captain for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The all-rounder has been on a torrid run of form in the ongoing IPL and has failed to deliver goods as the leader of Mumbai Indians.
There were reports that Hardik Pandya might be sacked as the team’s vice-captain and they might choose Rishabh Pant for the role. However, that was not the case as the all-rounder was entrusted with the role he held at the ICC World Cup 2023.
The T20 World Cup 2024 will also mark the return of Hardik Pandya to the Indian team after a long injury. He was injured during the World Cup and has missed playing for the team since then. However, he previously captained the team in T20Is in the absence of Rohit Sharma.
The Mumbai Indians captain has failed to set the stage in the ongoing IPL 2024. The all-rounder struggled with his form both in batting and with the ball and also came under frequent scrutiny. Under his leadership, Mumbai Indians also lost many games.
