Swansea City 0-1 Millwall: Casper De Norre’s Goal Means Neil Harris’s Lions End the Season with Their Fifth Win in a Row

Millwall ended the Sky Bet Championship season with a fifth consecutive win at Swansea thanks to Casper de Norre’s first goal in English football.

Belgian midfielder De Norre gave the Lions a 1-0 win by sweeping home Danny McNamara’s cross in the 72nd minute after Swansea winger Ronald was trapped in possession.

Millwall also had a penalty from Matija Sarkic to thank six minutes earlier when the Montenegrin goalkeeper parried Matt Grimes’ shot that had gone too close to him.

Both teams played out the final stages with 10 men as a largely tepid affair took on dramatic proportions at the end of the season.

Swansea substitute Jerry Yates and Millwall defender Japhet Tanganga were sent off after a furious collision with five minutes remaining.

The victory saw Millwall overtake Swansea in the final championship standings, with the Lions climbing to 13th place, with their Welsh hosts one place and two points lower.

Both teams were in good form, with Swansea taking 10 points from 12, their best record since four successive wins in September and October, while Millwall had put aside their own relegation worries.

The Lions had the first chance when Swansea allowed Zian Flemming’s long throw to rebound into their penalty area.

The ball found its way to Tom Bradshaw, but his attempted shot was saved by the alert Josh Key.

Swansea gradually took the lead and Ronald shot over the far post with the goal open.

Key’s powerful attack ended in half-hearted penalty appeals and Millwall survived again just before the half-hour mark.

Ollie Cooper cut into the infield and delivered a dangerous cross which Jamie Paterson, out of contract in the summer and possibly playing his last game at Swansea, directed over the goal.

Charlie Patino let Ronald through for another shot on goal, but this time the Brazilian was stopped by the onrushing Sarkic.

Millwall had shown no threat until the first few rallies, but two minutes before half-time Ryan Longman marched through the middle to warm the hands of Carl Rushworth.

After the restart, the visitors came close again after McNamara was outsmarted by Romain Esse and the full-back’s shot was deflected just past the far post.

Jake Cooper sent a header into the hands of Rushworth as Millwall increased the tempo and McNamara and Longman were thwarted by a last-ditch defense.

Swansea were awarded a penalty when Paterson’s through ball ended with Ronald being brought down by Cooper.

Sarkic dove to his right to parry Grimes and Paterson sent the rebound over the goal to keep the game scoreless.

Millwall made the most of the break when Ronald was caught showboating and McNamara struck to set up an ecstatic De Noore, who celebrated wildly in front of the traveling fans.

Yates came off the bench to restore matters but he spent just 11 minutes on the field after an unseemly argument with Tanganga led to their campaigns ending prematurely.
