Hyderabad-based philanthropist and businesswoman Sudha Reddy made a captivating appearance at the prestigious Met Gala 2024 held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 6. Her red carpet ensemble was themed “Sleeping Beauty: Fashion Resurgent,” reflecting her deep understanding of the “Garden of Time” theme and dress code following her remarkable debut in 2021.

Dressed in a $30,000 custom creation from the atelier of esteemed couturier Tarun Tahiliani, complemented by exquisite jewelry from Farah Khan Ali, Sudha Reddy presented a red carpet moment that seamlessly blended timelessness and avant-garde flair. Capturing the fleeting essence of the time, the monochromatic ensemble wasn’t just couture; It was a masterclass in storytelling and symbolism through fashion. It served as a metaphor for India’s artistic resurgence, reflected the country’s current creative and cultural boom, and showcased the beauty and depth of Indian craftsmanship and design.
Handcrafted by over 80 artisans over 4,500 hours, the ivory silk dress was a true testament to collaboration. The hand-corseted bodice featured a miniature self-portrait of Sudha holding a delicate rose, symbolizing the promise of hope and peace. The bodice itself was a marvel of meticulous craftsmanship, meticulously executed with thousands of French knots, intricate Indian embroidery and shimmering silk threads.
The top was adorned with hand-carved mother-of-pearl flowers symbolizing luminosity and permanence, while 3D butterflies symbolized the circle of life. The flowing drapery of the dress cascaded like unfolding petals, embodying the longing for self-expression. Symbolizing the themes of regeneration and transformation, a voluminous cape made of panels of embroidered tulle added a textural element to the handcrafted shoulder accessory of mother-of-pearl flowers and crystals designed by Miodrag Guberinić, known for making accessories for Lady Gaga and Madonna.
The centerpiece of Sudha Reddy’s ensemble was undoubtedly the ‘Amore Eterno’ necklace, a stunning masterpiece from her personal collection. Adorned with 25 exceptional solitaires totaling over 180 carats, this exquisite piece embodies the enduring legacy of the present and future generations of the Reddy family. The centerpiece of the necklace is a symbolic family tree made of four large, heart-shaped diamonds. The largest diamond, a 25-carat King of Hearts, honors Krishna Reddy, while the Queen of Hearts, a 20-carat heart, symbolizes Sudha Reddy. Two other 20-carat hearts, known as the Prince of Knowledge and Prince of Treasures, represented her sons Pranav and Manas. Completing this masterpiece are twenty-one luminous round diamonds, symbolizing the shared experiences and cherished moments of Sudha-Krishna’s love story. Other jewels included a 20-carat heart-shaped diamond ring and a 23-carat yellow diamond ring.
Sudha Reddy’s elegance went beyond her outfit with the $40,000 vintage cream Chanel clutch from the Falling For Camellias collection and custom beaded stilettos. Stylist Gautam Kalra assembled a dream team: Celebrity makeup artist Nina Ubhi enhanced her natural beauty with fresh, dewy makeup and a clean, messy bun accented with jeweled bobby pins by Amrapali nail artist Fleury Rose, transforming her fingertips with a cascading white into miniature works of art flowers and Swarovski crystals manicures that took 100 hours to create.

A metaphor for India as a sleeping beauty reawakening, the outfit celebrates the timelessness of traditional craftsmanship, the transcendence of temporal boundaries and the eternal cycle of renewal and regeneration.”
Farah Khan Ali said: “Making the ‘Amore Eterno’ necklace wasn’t just about finding rare diamonds; It was about capturing the essence of love and time. I meticulously searched for these natural diamonds in various parts of the world, which required months of careful planning, designing, high-precision laser cutting and polishing to achieve the final result. Featuring 180 carats of natural diamonds, Sudha’s ‘Amore Eterno’ necklace reflects the cyclical dance of life where the past, present and future converge.” Through the Sudha Reddy Foundation and its association with esteemed organizations such as UNICEF, the Global Gift Foundation, Mit Cancer Research Foundation, Fight Hunger Foundation and Action Against Hunger, Reddy is actively committed to empowering women and children and promoting healthcare and education on a global scale.
