Stoke City 4-0 Bristol City: Million Manhoef Stars as the Potters End the Season with a Stunning Win

Stoke’s impressive form continued and ended the season with a 4-0 win over Bristol City in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Potters, who confirmed their safety with victory over Southampton last weekend, claimed a third successive win for the first time since October.

First half goals from Luke Cundle, Tyrese Campbell and Million Manhoef put the hosts firmly on course to take all three points.

And Manhoef scored his second goal after the break with a great shot from distance that went past the helpless Max O’Leary.

The traveling Robins, unbeaten in seven games under Liam Manning before this competition, suffered their heaviest defeat since January 2022.

Stoke picked up where they left off on the south coast and Bae Junho – winner of the club’s Player of the Season award – was close to opening the scoring.

However, it was Bristol City who got the ball in the net first, with Scott Twine putting the finishing touches to a complicated move only to be warned offside.

The hosts’ brilliant start was finally rewarded just half an hour ago when alert Wolves loanee Cundle left the onrushing O’Leary behind.

An entertaining opening period followed and the Robins should have equalized soon after, but Daniel Iversen’s feet were denied by Twine to preserve Stoke’s narrow lead.

Influential South Korean youngster Junho then rattled the crossbar as Steven Schumacher’s side tried to turn the screw.

And it didn’t take long for the Potters’ persistence to bear fruit again as they managed a quick brace before half-time and took better control of the tie.

The out-of-contract Campbell scored his second goal in as many games when he fired a fierce shot from a tight angle into the top corner.

And January signing Manhoef added the third goal about 60 seconds later, ending up under the roof of the net just before halftime.

Stoke showed no signs of slowing down after the restart and soon scored their fourth goal of the afternoon – their most in a single game since the opening day of the season.

Manhoef received the ball on the edge of the penalty area, took aim at the ball from 25 meters and shot the ball precisely for his fourth goal in six appearances.

Twine almost scored another consolation goal for the visitors, but he was unable to convert Ross McCrorie’s precise cross.

The lively Cundle, who added two assists to his opening goal in the first half, almost scored a brace – only to see his shot hit the crossbar.

Ultimately, it was another step in the right direction for Schumacher’s Potters, who finished the season with just one defeat in eight games.

Meanwhile, Andy King was on the Robins bench as the Premier League winners ended his 17-year career.
