Skoda Enyaq RS Race Believes Electric SUVs Have a Place in Motorsport. What Do You Think?

  • The Skoda Enyaq RS Race concept is an evolution of the current track-only Enyaq vRS road car
  • The electric SUV coupe gets a large rear wing, wider fenders and additional aero mods on the nose
  • Just renderings for now, but Skoda hints that the concept’s ideas will soon become reality

Skoda has been heavily involved in motorsports for decades and this week the Czech company unveiled the Enyaq RS Race, a concept that gives a hint at how the brand’s latest electric models might fit into its future competitive activities.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]}; adpushup.que.push(function() { if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){ adpushup.triggerAd(“4d84e4c9-9937-4f84-82c0-c94544ee6f2a”); } else{ adpushup.triggerAd(” 6a782b01-facb-45f3-a88f-ddf1b1f97657″); } });

Based on the current Enyaq Coupé vRS, the concept impresses with a large rear wing, aggressive window slats and an air-hungry diffuser. Wider fenders – ventilated at the front – cover huge wheels that look like caricatures of Alpina’s “cotton roll” rims from the late 1970s, there’s a set of side skirts so wide that Al Capone’s thugs could ride by on them, and the metal roof skin looks like it has been swapped out for carbon fiber.

At the pointy end there are further aero modifications that Skoda says were inspired by the nose of the real Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 race car, but they reveal nothing about the suspension or drivetrain or even the plans for this concept. But we firmly believe that the project won’t settle for a few tasty renders that excite us all, only to let us down if they don’t move forward.

“The Enyaq RS Race is not a design study that remains only on paper; “It will be a real car,” Daniel Petr, senior designer at Skoda, assures us. “It will be lower, wider, lighter and, above all, more dynamic. So it was clear from the start that the design had to be aggressive and with strong racing DNA.”

    Skoda Enyaq RS Race believes electric SUVs have a place in motorsport. What do you think?

Personally, we’re hoping this is some kind of harbinger of a crazy road car, some kind of Black Series or CSL of the Enyaq range, although that seems unlikely. Or perhaps it’s a hint of what we can expect when the Enyaq vRS is replaced in a few years. However, it is more likely that it is a foretaste of the company’s next rally car and is intended to show that the VW Group’s MEB platform can also impress on gravel roads.

Skoda already competed in the Austrian Rally Championship in 2021 with the Fabia RS-X1, a Fabia Rally2 converted to electric vehicles, and last month launched an electric racing car for the digital world, the single-seater Vision GT, which is exclusive The Gran Turismo 7 PlayStation game was developed for this purpose.
