SimpliSafe is launching a new Live Guard outdoor security service for select customers. The company says its new service improves home security with two layers of protection and integrates advanced artificial intelligence (AI) with human agents to prevent home break-ins and other property crimes.
When a SimpliSafe user’s outdoor camera detects an intruder or potential intruder, a SimpliSafe agent monitoring the camera’s feed intervenes before the prowler can enter the home, even dispatching the police if necessary. Live Guard outdoor protection works across SimpliSafe’s existing range of smart outdoor security cameras.
When a user’s SimpliSafe system is armed, cameras monitor the perimeter of the home and use AI to detect anyone approaching the property. SimpliSafe’s AI then compares that person to the homeowner’s saved profiles of known faces. If the person doesn’t match any of the profiles, an agent accesses the camera’s live feed to assess the situation. When the agent detects a threat, it uses the camera’s two-way audio to communicate with the person and activates the security system’s sirens if necessary. The company says this is usually enough to deter most intruders, but its agents have the authority to contact local law enforcement if the situation escalates.
SimpliSafe
The live outdoor surveillance service builds on SimpliSafe’s existing 24/7 Live Guard protection, which provides professional monitoring of all security cameras and sensors. During an active alarm somewhere in the user’s home, SimpliSafe agents can access the cameras’ video feeds and microphones to attempt to redirect the threat and dispatch police, fire or medical assistance if they detect an emergency.
Live outdoor surveillance expands the scope of this coverage, allowing agents to target outdoor threats before they reach doors or windows – such as climbing over a backyard fence – as well as crimes outside the home, such as a break-in of the homeowner’s car.
As with SimpliSafe’s current professional surveillance service, Live Outdoor Protection users have complete control over which cameras SimpliSafe agents can monitor and when, and all recorded videos are securely encrypted and inaccessible to surveillance agents once an incident has been reviewed and closed. Users can also easily create and delete profiles of famous faces in the SimpliSafe app to ensure alerts remain accurate and relevant.
Pricing was not available at press time, but Live Guard outdoor protection is currently available for qualified customers to test through SimpliSafe’s Early Access program and will be available to all customers later this year.
Our SimpliSafe Essentials review identified the offering as one of our favorite DIY home security systems.
