Shemar Moore is thrilled Clap Season 8 is just around the corner.
Moore, 54, spoke exclusively to Us weekly at the CBS Fall Schedule Celebration at the Paramount lot in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 2, and discussed the previously canceled show’s return to the small screen.
Moore told Us that “none of us expected an eighth season,” but he was definitely hoping for one. “I can’t say I expected it,” he said Us. “That would be a little arrogant, but I believed in it. I really did. And I knew it was against all odds, but I don’t know – it’s been my whole life.”
“My mom raised me that way,” Moore continued. “If they don’t knock you out and force you to your knees, that’s fine. But you get up. … I’m just proud of what we’ve accomplished in seven seasons. … They cut our budgets and we made it happen. They moved us through the seasons that night or that night or that window of time. We made it possible.”
The actor noted that at the start of Season 7, he was ready to say goodbye to the hit series by making sure fans “didn’t want us to leave.”
“We got them thinking, and the fans screamed and screamed and the powers that be listened,” he said Criminal thoughts Alum added.
Moore, who plays the lead role of Sergeant II Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Clapalso spoke with Us about how he sees his character developing.
“I know he’s a family man,” Moore explained. “Now he has a wife and a little girl whose art imitates life.” (Moore and his girlfriend, Jesiree Dizon, their daughter Frankie, 15 months.)
However, Moore said he didn’t want to Clap “become a soap opera.”
“Was Clap – You know the theme song, man,” he said. “I want to continue this exciting ride. But I love it when we get topical. I love it when we’re grounded. We have a great sense of camaraderie and chemistry, it shows in the show.
Moore noted that he plays a “superhero” in the series, which he said is “a good thing.”
When 40-year-old Dizon was asked what it was like to date a superhero, she replied, “It’s fun.”…He’s the same way at home. Not that serious, but just like that – kind of funny. You know, [like a] Father!”
Dizon explained that after long days on set, she gives Moore “a lot of space and time to sleep when he needs sleep.”
“And chicken and rice!” Moore joked. “She makes great chicken and rice.”
Clap released in 2017 and follows Harrelson and his team of tough cops as they fight crime in Los Angeles. The eighth season is scheduled to air this fall with 22 episodes. This extension is unexpected considering CBS had previously stated that Season 7 would mark the conclusion of the series.
