According to an Economic Times report on May 2, Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn topped the list of celebrity-endorsed commercials aired during the first 37 matches of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Their ad share was a whopping 19%, according to TAM Sports data obtained from the newspaper. 65% of celebrity endorsed ads came from advertisers such as Sporta Technologies, Vishnu Packaging, KP Pan Foods, Playgames 24*7 and Coca-Cola India.
The Economic Times report further states that in last year’s edition of IPL, it was Aamir Khan who dominated the advertising volume for celebrity TVCs. Among sports celebrities this year, Virender Sehwag is at the top with a share of 7.5% of the advertising volume, followed by Hardik Pandya with a share of 7.4%. In IPL 2023, Virat Kohli was the top sports star.
The TAM Sports data also sheds light on the fact that the share of celebrity-endorsed commercials in total TV advertising volume during IPL 2024 is at 61%, while this figure was 75% last year. Meanwhile, the share of non-celebrity endorsements has risen from 25% to 39% this year. Additionally, according to the report, ecom gaming, pan masala, carbonated soft drinks, face washes and paints were the five categories with the highest celebrity endorsements, accounting for a large share of 75% of the advertising volume.
Talking about Ajay Devgn, he started the year with the hit supernatural thriller. Satan. The critically acclaimed sports film followed Field. The talented star will have three more releases this year – Where were you in my mind? on July 5th Singham again supposedly on Diwali and Raid 2 Reportedly on November 15th.
