On April 30, 2024, cricket enthusiasts across the world celebrated captaining the Indian team Rohit Sharma Turned 37 years old. Purnima took to Instagram where she shared a photo from Rohit’s childhood along with a happy birthday song. Throughout his childhood, Rohit did not live with his parents in Nagpur. Rather, he stayed with relatives in Mumbai and dedicated himself to cricket training with determination.

Began his career as a bowling all-rounder

At the start of his career, Rohit batted at number 6 and bowled off-spin with the aim of becoming a bowling all-rounder. However, during a school tournament, Rohit’s childhood coach Dinesh Lad saw him batting and suggested moving up in his batting order. This decision changed Rohit’s life path and made him one of the best batsmen in India.

Rohit’s career is peppered with an impressive string of records and now he is at the forefront to lead India in the world ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Since 2013, Rohit has consistently proven his indispensable value to the Indian team in white-ball cricket. His accolades include record holder for most double centuries (3) in ODIs and highest individual score of 264. He also has the most centuries in World Cup matches (7) and has scored the highest number of T20I centuries ( 5) in global cricket.

Rohit initially had limited opportunities in Test cricket since his debut in 2013, but his promotion to opener in 2019 changed his performance trajectory. His leadership qualities are evident through victories like winning five IPL titles, two Asia Cup titles and most importantly, leading India in the World Cup Cricket World Cup 2023 where they remained unbeaten until the final when Australia defeated the Men in Blue by 6 wickets.
