Robin Roberts Returns to “GMA” After Day off with Broken Wrist

Robin Roberts returned to Good morning America with a broken wrist after her one-day break.

Roberts, 63, appeared on the show on Tuesday, April 30, wearing a bandage after being absent from the previous day’s episode.

After I finish a tennis segment on Tuesday, I’ll be a co-host George Stephanopoulos quipped to Roberts: “I hope watching tennis on the screen didn’t upset you. I know you had a little mishap over the weekend.”

Roberts made light of her injury, teasing her: “Oh no, no. You should have seen the other guy! I mean, I tried to do an uppercut.” She explained that she “had a little fall on the tennis court,” adding, “Maybe I’ll start with padel.” Maybe that’s my sport.”

In an Instagram video on Tuesday, Roberts showed off her bandage on camera. “All my years as a competitive athlete, my first fracture and hopefully my last,” she said. “But here we are with the morning message and prayer, and that is very appropriate.”

Roberts then read from a daily reflection book: “You may be in a time of suffering and struggle. You may feel like your health, your marriage, or your finances will never get better. No, the Almighty Himself is about to step in and do what only He can do.”

Roberts continued, “When your time comes, doors will open, freedom will come, healing will appear, good breaks will find you.”

Alongside the video, Roberts wrote in the caption: “Good morning! I’m playing a little hurt this morning, but Glam Fam and I still want to share our #TuesdayThoughts #cmon with you.”

Throughout their time GMA, Roberts has been open with viewers about her personal life, including her health struggles. In 2007, she underwent chemotherapy for breast cancer and five years later received a bone marrow transplant.

When Roberts got married Amber Laign In 2023, she spoke about how her health issues strengthened the couple’s relationship. Roberts even gave Laign the nickname “Sweet Amber” because she was there for her during hard times.

“We had only been together for less than two years when I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” Roberts shared in an August 2023 episode GMA. “She could have gotten out early in the relationship. Nobody would have blamed her.”

Roberts continued: “It was so organic. It’s just the aura that surrounds them. She is very nice. She’s just really, really nice and it’s so real, you know? It’s not about being anything other than what she is.”

In 2022, Laign was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent chemotherapy.

“We are very fortunate in our roles as caregivers and patients,” Laign said GMA by the time. “Unfortunate that we had to go through that, but that we both supported each other on both sides of those roles.”
