Just a few days back, Richa Chadha had spoken about how she is preparing for her role as a courtesan in the recently released film ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’. Since the series premiered on May 1, the actress has been receiving recognition not only for her performance as an actress but also as a dancer, including her solo dance performance on the song ‘Masoom Dil Hain Mera’. Recently, she took to social media to share a special video highlighting the change during her rehearsals for the song.
Richa Chadha reveals how the Kathak sequence ‘broke her down’ in Heeramandi; says, “It really crushed me, but those tears came from a place of accomplishment.”
Richa Chadha posted a split-screen video in which we can see her rehearsing and her actual performance in the song Masoom Dil Hain Mera. She also shared an anecdote in which she highlighted that what she rehearsed was drastically different from what they shot and there was a lot of improvisation and changes on the set itself. She wrote, “I can safely say that almost none of Kruti Mahesh’s choreographies have remained the same. So I was grateful that I had practiced just staying in rhythm. This is one of the steps that remained. “Rest well, we gave it our all on set.”
Richa further emphasized that she also has to wear a 40kg vest during rehearsals to get used to wearing the actual costume; which also weighed 40kg. Richa revealed that she was devastated on the day of the shoot and was crying and exhausted. She even revealed that she had to perform the last part of the song in one take. She added: “Sir wanted me to perform the heartbreaking part of the song in one go without any breaks. The camera had to rotate 360° and I still had to control the emotions, the camera and the dance. It was a super emotional day that really destroyed me. But those tears came from a place of success.”
Richa Chadha is about the role of a courtesan who is adopted by Mallikajaan aka Manisha Koirala, who rules the Shahi Mahal – where the courtesans live. Richa will be seen opposite Adhyayan Suman, who plays a Nawab. The web series features an ensemble cast including Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Sehgal, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Shekhar Suman, Fardeen Khan and Taha Shah Badussha and is currently streaming on Netflix.
