Renault Symbioz: New Crossover is Positioned Above the Captur

It’s been a busy year for Renault as the company largely revamped its crossover range, with the latest being the new one Renault Symbioz.

It is unclear whether the Symbioz will make the journey Down Under, a spokesman said CarExpert The local branch will “consider all right-hand drive products for our market, but there is nothing concrete to confirm at this time.”

With a length of 4413 mm, a width of 1797 mm, a height of 1575 mm and a wheelbase of 2638 mm, the Symbioz sits between the 4.23 m long Captur and the 4.51 m long Austral and the 4.57 m long Arkana crossover coupe.

When the rear seat is pushed all the way back, the trunk of the Symbioz should have a capacity of 434 liters according to the VDA standard. This value can be increased by 548 l when the rear seats are pushed forward and by 1582 l when the rear seats are folded down.

Externally, the Symbioz features Renault’s latest design language with sharper lines and details. At the front there is a closed upper grille with an embossed pattern. There are a pair of slim headlights highlighted by S-shaped driving lights.

The Symbioz is based on a stretched version of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance’s CMF-B architecture, which underlies the Clio and Captur.

When the Symbioz is launched in Europe, the only powertrain available is an E-Tech hybrid system, consisting of a 69kW 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, a 36kW traction motor, an 18kW high-voltage Starter generator and a 1.2 kWh battery pack.

These components work together via a “Multi-Mode Clutchless Dog Box” with four gears for the petrol engine and two for the main electric motor, and the entire system has a total output of 107 kW. According to the WLTP standard, fuel consumption should be a measly 4.6 l/100 km.

A 10.4-inch portrait touchscreen with OpenR infotainment setup is installed as standard on all models. Based on the Android Automotive 12 operating system, the touchscreen features wired and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

In front of the driver is a 10.3-inch instrument display. Available features include an ambient lighting system with 48 user-selectable colors, a nine-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, and a glass roof that can be electronically dimmed.

There are various 18-inch wheel designs to choose from, while the sporty top model Espirit Alpine is equipped with 19-inch rims.

The safety package includes front and rear autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function, a surround-view camera system and traffic sign recognition.

Production of the Symbioz takes place at the Renault factory in Valladolid, about 200 km northwest of Madrid.
