Sometimes you have to lose something to gain something. This is the early story that unfolded Rebel Wilsonwho actually betrayed her lost money with her breakthrough role in Bridesmaids.
The 44-year-old actress appeared in the Diary of a CEO Podcast with Steven Bartlett, who mentioned that Wilson wrote in her headline-grabbing memoir: Rebel uprising, that she was only paid $3,500 for her role in the 2011 comedy. As if that amount wasn’t already pretty minuscule for what turned out to be a huge success, Wilson said that between paying her union dues and then using the remaining money on a dress for the film’s premiere, she ended up in the red.
“That was my first job in America. I was very lucky to get him. I mean, what a blast of a movie to get but get paid so little for it. And basically the $3,500 that I had to pay back then to join the union,” said Wilson, who portrayed Brynn, the sister of Matt Lucas’ character Gil. “So basically I didn’t make any money. I lost money because I had to pay for the premiere to buy my dress and everything. So I lost money on that.” Bridesmaids.”
When the film came out, it was a huge success. But between completing the film and the film’s release, she struggled financially, Wilson said.
“This was a really tight year living on $60 a week in LA after paying my rent and car, and that’s not a lot of money,” she added. “So I didn’t party or live that life. Wilson announced her role in 2021 Bridesmaids was just added after she didn’t get the lead role.
“My character shouldn’t have existed in the film. I auditioned for it.” Melissa McCarthy“‘s character and was the second choice for the role,” Wilson said of McCarthy’s character Megan on SiriusXM The Jess Cagle Show. “I guess they liked my audition and basically put me in the movie so there was never going to be two roommates, just one. So I just sort of inserted myself into the scenes.”
For the role, Wilson previously revealed that she got a fake tattoo of a “Mexican drinking worm” (after they couldn’t get the rights to Hip-Hop Garfield). And the tattoo proved to be a challenge for her hygiene as she tried to keep it from rubbing off.
“I was just filming Bridesmaids “For a week, and the whole week I had to wrap myself in saran wrap around my torso area so I could have the tattoo if I wanted to reference it,” she noted. “We only used it on the first day.”, But just in case.
