Raveena Tandon is one of the most popular actresses who ruled the roost in the 90s and continues to shine with her work today. She is the daughter of producer Ravi Tandon and Veena Tandon and for the first time her mother gave an interview and opened up like never before.

As part of Mother’s Day celebrations, HT City spoke to Veena Tandon, who turns 82 on May 13. She started by talking about her beginnings and being educated at Cathedral & John Connon School and SNDT College in Mumbai. She revealed that her mother died when she was young and hence she grew up with her father and also her sister who lived in Dehradun.

After graduating from college, she married Ravi Tandon. She said in the interview: “I was very happy to be in the background and be a force for my husband. He was busy all day, so I had to take care of our two children – take them to school, pick them up and raise them well. My husband used to work two to three shifts a day. I did my best.”

She also confessed that she never attended a movie party and that “I was always away along with our children. I kept her away from all of that.”

When asked how Raveena Tandon decided to become an actress, Veena revealed, “She wasn’t interested in films, but when she got it Stone flowers (1991) with Salman Khan, her friends said: “AreyFilm with Salman Hey, do-do-do.’”

Stone flowers was a hit and made Raveena Tandon a household name. For this film she won the Filmfare Award for Lux New Face of the Year.

Raveena Tandon praised her mother in the interview and said, “If my father was my feeling, my mother is my strength.” As a child, I always accompanied her as she was keenly interested in social work and fundraising. When I decided to adopt my two little girls when I was 21, my mother took care of them while I was away filming. I absorbed the power from her.”
