Range Rover Insurance Premiums Are so High That JLR is Now Giving UK Owners £150 a Month

Range Rovers are also among the most stolen cars in the UK, leading to a 56.4 percent increase in insurance premiums in a single year. To counter this trend, JLR is already improving the safety of its models, working with local insurers and offering its own insurance services. In addition to these measures, the company announced a new insurance premium initiative that will offer Range Rover owners monthly payments of £150 ($187) towards the cost of their insurance for up to three years.

The program is currently limited to Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models registered between May 1st and September 30th. The value of the vehicle cannot exceed £150,000 ($187,136), meaning the more expensive SV models are excluded. The contribution also does not apply to smaller Range Rover models, namely the Evoque and the Velar.

To be eligible, drivers must be between 30 and 85 years old and JLR’s own insurance company must cover the SUVs. The latter opened in October 2023 to owners of Jaguar, Land Rover and Range Rover models and currently has an average monthly offer premium of less than £180 ($225).

JLR is also there for owners of older Range Rovers, investing £15 million ($18.7 million) to improve the safety of older models. A total of 150,000 SUVs registered from 2018 have already been upgraded and an anti-theft software update is in development for the 2016 and 2017 models.

Finally, the company offers UK insurers “an unprecedented level of real-time data”. It holds regular conferences to convince them that work is being done to make Range Rover less vulnerable to car thieves.

The latest generation models have proven to be more resistant to theft. According to police, 0.2 percent of new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models and 0.3 percent of new Land Rover Defenders were stolen.
