Ram Celebrates 30,000 American Pickups on Australian Roads

The Australian branch of the American pickup brand R.A.M. has overtaken its 30,000th vehicle Down Under.

Ram Trucks Australia is celebrating the milestone achieved with the overhaul of a 1500 Big Horn in Melbourne with a new finance offer.

Through the end of June, all Ram 1500 Big Horn models sold and delivered will be offered with a 4.99 percent no-money down financing package.

“30,000 vehicles is a significant parking lot by any measure – that it has emerged in a segment that didn’t exist a few years ago is a testament to the hard work of everyone involved,” Ram Trucks Australia general manager Jeff Barber said .

“The run-up to the end of the financial year is always the peak buying time for small and medium sized business owners and this finance offer from Mates Rates is a compelling entry point into the RAM Trucks range.”

Ram, part of automotive giant Stellantis, beat Ford and General Motors to the Australian market by offering a factory-backed, full-size pickup truck that was locally remanufactured in right-hand drive.

The brand began local operations in 2014 and has increased its sales every year since then.

In 2023, 6,833 vehicles were sold, with the 1500 being the most popular vehicle in the full-size pickup segment with 5,922 sold.

Ram vehicles are delivered from the US production line and remanufactured in right-hand drive for the Australian market at a factory in Clayton, Victoria.

The overhaul will be carried out by local company Walkinshaw, with Ram Trucks Australia offering right-hand drive versions of the 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups.

Ram Trucks Australia is a licensed brand of American Special Vehicles, owned by LDV, Maserati and Renault dealer Ateco.

Prices range from $119,950 before on-road costs for the entry-level 1500 Big Horn to $224,950 plus on-road costs for the flagship 1500 TRX.

All 1500 models feature a V8 engine, while the 2500 and 3500 versions come with a 6.7-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder engine.

Since the right-hand drive Ram first rolled off local production lines, Ford and General Motors have followed suit – but the Ram 1500 is still the best-selling vehicle in its segment.

In the first quarter of this year, 2,623 full-size pickup trucks were sold in Australia – including Chevrolet Silverado and Silverado HD, Ram 1500/2500/3500, Ford F-150 and Toyota Tundra models.

This corresponds to an increase of 16.3 percent compared to the 2,256 pickups delivered in the same period last year.
