Rajkummar Rao, a Bollywood actor, is gearing up for his upcoming film Srikanth, recently revealed a piece of advice he once received from Shah Rukh Khan. Shah Rukh advised him to buy an expensive property so that he would be motivated to work hard. Rajkummar shared this with Mashable in an interview.

The actor said, “Shah Rukh sir had taught me one thing: ‘Beta kabhi bhi ghar lega na, toh aukaat se thoda zyaada lena.’ Kyunki phir na, upar wala bhi dekhta hai aur tu khud bhi zyada mehnat karega (My son, whenever you buy a house, buy one that is a little beyond your means. This way you will work harder because you deserve it want) .’ I found that very fascinating.” He added: “Having a house in the city is of course a dream and we built it lovingly, me and Patralekhaa.”
Rajkummar and Patralekhaa’s house is quite big and measures 3456 square feet. In 2022, he acquired it from his co-star Janhvi Kapoor for Rs 44 crore.
SRK once stated that Mannat was too expensive for him. During the launch of Gauri Khan’s book My Life in Design, he remarked, “When we bought Mannat, it was way beyond our means and by the time we finished buying the house, we had no money left to decorate it . “We hired a designer only to realize we couldn’t afford him.”
In the March 2013 issue of Notch Magazine, designer and producer Shabinaa Khan had penned a heartfelt essay in which she recalled her experiences with Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan. The article titled ‘The SRK Story’ looked at SRK’s early days in Bollywood and his life with his dearest wife Gauri Khan after they moved to Mumbai. She revealed that after Gauri joined Shah Rukh in Mumbai, they lived in one of the bedrooms in Aziz Mirza’s house for a few weeks. Then they rented a one-bedroom apartment in Mount Mary. She had written, “Shah Rukh got his dream bungalow Mannat on Gauri’s birthday – and Adi decided to screen the first print of his film (DDLJ). That was the day Shah Rukh welcomed us all on the dilapidated terrace of the house, with no lights, just a light bulb, biryani served on thermal plates and disposable glasses. He was just too excited to show us his latest achievement.”
Meanwhile, Rajkummar is Rao’s biographical drama Srikanth is scheduled to hit theaters on May 10th. The film also stars Jyothika, Alaya F and Sharad Kelkar.
