On a recent episode of Cavanaugh James’ podcast Read The Room, Priyanka Chopra gushed about Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen. She mentioned that they were “doing so well on the world stage” when they were younger. Aishwarya Rai created history by winning the Miss World title in 1994. She was the second Indian woman to wear the crown after Reita Faria Powell (1966). Sushmita was the first Indian to win the Miss Universe title. She also won the competition in 1994.

When asked about her remarkable transformation from a teenager to a beauty pageant winner overnight, Priyanka said, “In my country, beauty pageants are really revered; they were truly admired, especially the Miss India and Miss World beauty pageants. There was.” A decade of back-to-back winners from my country, and I felt like beauty pageants had a bad reputation in America, and we didn’t have that growing up. India took part, our family watched the pageant and it did really fun.”
Priyanka added, “I remember in 1993 or 1994 when Miss World and Miss Universe, Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen, both came from India that year. And I had little clippings from the newspapers like a little collage in my room (of Aishwarya and Sushmita). ). But it wasn’t like I wanted to be her. It was like, “Wow, look at these young women doing so well on a global scale.” But I never wanted to do that. So when I was thrown into it, I really believed I was the child of fate in a way, and I really ride on it and don’t fight it.”
Priyanka, then 18, won the Miss World 2000 beauty pageant. She entered the Miss India pageant because her brother Siddharth Chopra had sent her pictures without her knowledge.
After winning the Miss World pageant, Priyanka started her acting career in Tamil films Thamizhan (2002), followed by her first Bollywood film, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003).
