Borussia Dortmund will defend its 1-0 lead against Paris Saint-Germain when the two teams meet in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday.
Niclas Fullkrug scored the only goal of the game in the final outing, but it was Jadon Sancho who stole the headlines by dribbling Dortmund to within 90 minutes of their first Champions League final since 2013.
Here’s who Edin Terzic could use to ensure progress.
TW: Gregor Kobel – It’s unlikely another man will pull on the gloves on Tuesday, but the Swiss international has been great this season.
RB: Julian Ryerson – There were doubts about how Ryerson would handle Kylian Mbappe in the first leg, but the 26-year-old put those to rest at Signal Iduna Park.
CB: Mats Hummels – Since Hummels has played every minute of Dortmund’s Champions League season so far, he is a crucial asset for Terzic.
CB: Nico Schlotterbeck – Providing an assist and picking up a card in Germany showed the 24-year-old’s determination in both attack and defense for Dortmund.
LB: Ian Maatsen – Sancho isn’t the only loan player loving life in Dortmund. Maatsen continues to impress in his visit to Chelsea.
DM: Marcel Sabitzer – The Austrian midfielder was instrumental in Dortmund’s quarter-final second leg against Atlético Madrid, scoring goals and assists in the 4-2 win. Can he find this form in round two against PSG?
DM: Emre Can – It is very likely that Can will once again take responsibility for defending the back four.
RW: Jadon Sancho – Sancho enjoyed life with the German team (again) and repeatedly created chances for Dortmund in the first leg against PSG. Luis Enrique will work diligently until Tuesday to formulate strategies to neutralize the threat posed by the Englishman.
AM: Julian Brandt – Although his finishing left something to be desired, Brandt remained active and positive throughout the first game.
LW: Karim Adeyemi – Terzic will be counting on Adeyemi to use his blistering pace once again, this time with even greater effectiveness, especially given his noticeable fatigue towards the end of the PSG game.
CF: Niclas Fullkrug – Fullkrug is expected to be at the top of Dortmund’s starting XI on Tuesday and secure the award after scoring the decisive goal in the first leg. However, a few minutes of play can be expected for the returning Sebastien Haller.
