Starz will travel even further back in time for the upcoming prequel series. Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
Production officially started in Scotland in February 2024 Outlander: Blood of My Bloodwhich will consist of 10 episodes and follows the parallel love stories of Jamie and Claire Fraser’s parents.
Starz’s Outlanderbased on the historical fantasy novel series by Diana GabaldonStars Sam Heughan And Caitriona Balfe as Jamie and Claire respectively. The 16-episode first season of Outlander premiered on Starz in 2014. Based on Gabaldon’s 1991 novel of the same name, Outlander follows World War II nurse Claire Randall as she is transported back to 18th century Scotland where she falls in love with Highlander Jamie Fraser.
In 2022, Gabaldon announced via her blog that she had a prequel novel about Jamie Fraser’s parents in the works under the working title “A Bird in the Hand”, to be published after the tenth and final novel of the year Outlander Series. She also announced at the time that Sony and Starz had started a prequel series. Blood of my blood The green light was officially given in January 2023.

Who is in the cast of Outlander: Blood of My Blood?
On February 5th the main cast of Outlander: Blood of My Blood was announced and did not include Heughan or Balfe, as it focuses largely on their parents. Per diversity, Harriet Slater (Pennyworth, Belgravia: The Next Chapter) will appear as Ellen Mackenzie and Jamie Roy (condor nest, Flowers and honey) will portray Brian Fraser.
Hermione Corfield (The road dance, We hunt together) will star as Julia Moriston Jeremy Irvine (warhorse, Mamma Mia! here we go again) as Henry Beauchamp. Slater and Roy will portray Jamie’s parents, while Corfield and Irvine will play Claire’s.
Weeks later, on February 26th, diversity confirmed that four more stars would be joining the cast. Rory Alexander was cast as young Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser (originally played by Duncan LaCroix), Sam Retford will star as Dougal MacKenzie (originally played by Graham McTavish), James McLean Ross as Colum MacKenzie (originally played by Gary Lewis) And Conor MacNeill as Ned Gowan (originally played by Bill Paterson).
In April, six additional actors were announced to join the series. Sally Messham will play Mrs. Fitz, who is Ellen’s maid and Murtagh’s aunt Terence Rae will portray Bug, according to Arch deadline. Yes, Malin will also star as Jocasta Cameron Ailsa Davidson as Janet MacKenzie, Annabelle Dowler as Lizbeth and Harry Eaton as Private Charlton.
What is Outlander: Blood of My Blood about?
According to the series’ official description from Starz: Blood of my blood focuses on “two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie’s parents in the Scottish Highlands of the early 18th century and Claire’s parents in World War I England.”
“We are excited to tell the stories of these two couples,” he said Outlander Showrunner, executive producer and writer Matthew B Roberts in a statement dated February 2024 per diversity. “The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods, and we are excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories, just as they did with Claire and Jamie.”
