Chery has introduced the latest model with the Omoda badge in the form of the Omoda 7. Unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show, this crossover will be positioned above the Omoda 5 and will compete with models such as the Toyota RAV4 in select global markets.

Under the shell of the new Omoda 7 is a stretched version of the Omoda 5’s platform. It is 4,621 mm (182 inches) long, 1,872 mm (73.7 inches) wide, 1,673 mm (65.8 inches) high and has a Wheelbase of 2,700 mm (106.2 inches). While Chery has stated that the SUV will be powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged plug-in hybrid powertrain, it has not provided specifications for this setup. Nevertheless, the engine is said to produce 115 kW (154 hp) and 162 lb-ft (220 Nm) of torque. According to Chery, the SUV can travel up to 95 km on electric power and around 1,200 km on one tank of fuel.

Visually, the crossover is quite an angular little thing. The headlights are sharp and pointed and there is an unconventional grille that catches the eye. This show car is finished in white, with the pillars and roof decorated in black, which underlines the sporty design.

The automaker itself hasn’t released any photos of the rear of the SUV, but an online search shows that it features intricate LED taillights. The interior features a large 15.6-inch Tesla-style infotainment display and a slim digital instrument cluster. Chery has also included wireless smartphone charging pads that are very similar to those on the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. Even the steering wheel has similar scroll wheels to current Teslas.

All Omoda 7 models come standard with a 12-speaker sound system, which includes two additional speakers in the driver’s headrest for telephone calls and navigation announcements. Chery will launch the Omoda 7 in global markets including the UK, Australia and South Africa in 2025.
