New York police seized control of Columbia University on Tuesday evening, violently retaking an academic building that had been seized by violent pro-Palestinian protesters, and making dozens of arrests in the process.
Hundreds of NYPD officers in riot gear marched on the Ivy League school’s main campus in Manhattan to disperse the agitators who had invaded Hamilton Hall and taken control of the building just a day earlier.
Check out this dramatic video… A group of police officers wearing helmets climbed a ladder to a second-story window and crawled into the building, handcuffed with zip ties.
Upon entering the building, officers used four devices that distracted the demonstrators with very loud banging noises.
Within an hour, police had retaken the building, removed numerous demonstrators and loaded them onto three NYPD buses.
The exact number of people arrested and their possible charges were not yet known, but some media outlets reported that about 100 people were arrested.
NYPD officers also cleared the rest of the student protesters from their small tent city on the campus’ South Lawn, restoring order to the college.
As we’ve reported before…a lot Student protesters broke into Hamilton Hall On Monday evening, people shattered windows as they made their way into the building to take control of the building.
They were part of a larger group of protesters angry about the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which has left scores of Palestinians dead.
The demonstrators believe that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinians, who are ruled by Hamas in the region. Hamas sparked the conflict after its surprise attack on the Jewish state on October 7, which killed more than 1,200 Israelis.
Over the past two weeks, protesters have angered Jewish students and demanded that Colombia’s leadership distance itself from Israel-related interests… but the university’s president, Dr. Minouche ShafikShe said she wouldn’t do that.
Columbia administration also threatened to suspend pro-Palestinian students who did not protest peacefully and promised to expel those who occupied Hamilton Hall.
Similar violent protests occurred at colleges across the country.
