There have been reports that Nicola is dating her co-star Luke Newton.
These rumors gained momentum after Nicola and Luke were recently spotted holding hands at a premiere event in Australia.
But despite the hopeful speculations of Bridgerton Fans seem to think Nicola and Luke are just close friends.
In a recent interview with Marie Claire AustraliaNicola spoke about the challenges of modern dating.
She said that while she was drawn to the romance of the Regency era, she believes life is easier for single people in the 21st century.

“I think they smell better these days. That’s what I always think about the past… we think of it as so romantic and beautiful, but back then there was no personal hygiene,” she told the outlet.
“[It’s] Good, because now we have a choice, but then there is the paradox of choice. We have too much choice, that’s not good. So there are probably good things and bad things for both,” Nicola added.
She went on to joke about the grim reality of dating in the early 19th century.
“I think we probably only see the romantic versions [of the regency era]. But in reality it was like probably being traded for a goat or something or some land,” she said.
“So you’re probably better off now if we can at least make the call ourselves.”
Addressing rumors of a romance with Luke, Nicola explained that she and her co-star are just friends.
“There was a day when we had to shoot a beautifully written romantic scene and we just laughed our pants off because you have to look into each other’s eyes,” Nicola recently said Entertainment tonightand added:
“We said, ‘Oh God’.”
Luckily, it seems that the occasional awkward moment hasn’t stopped the two from portraying a believable on-screen romance.
Nicola Coughlan is happily single
It sounds like Nicola is in no hurry to settle down. And considering how busy she is these days, we can’t blame her.
In addition to her role in BridgertonNicola recently starred in the acclaimed Irish sitcom Derry Girls and played Barbie in the Barbie film Diplomat Barbie last year.
Nicola is currently busy with advertising Bridgerton Season 3, which is set to release on Netflix on May 16th.
She will also perform this year Dr. who A Christmas special making them part of a popular annual tradition in the UK.
In other words, she’s probably too busy to date right now – but when you’re doing what you love, that’s a good problem to have!
